LOL! I guess no one is listening. I know there was another poster that had the same issue as me and it was corrected by getting a replacement. Now I'm not saying a replacement will not be just as jacked as your first phone. All I'm saying is it's worth a shot.

Also when the Genius looked at my first phone he agreed that it was most certainly hardware related and replaced mine without question. And it works perfectly.

So in my case a replacement DID in fact cure my problems.

Not saying a replacement won't fix the issue, or that you're a liar, or anything like that, just that I think it's software based. If you'd done a full restore and were still having the issue I'd be more convinced.

Did you have the issue with all of your photos, or only those indoors at night? Just trying to figure out if we're having the same problem or if mine is solely a result of my CFL bulbs. I would hate to get a replacement phone that fixes white balance but in turn ends up with a messed up proximity sensor/reception problems/etc!

Yep did all that through apple care twice before I returned it. Trust me I spent a couple of hours on the phone between apple and at&t because I was trying to have them ship me an advanced phone without the deposit. The closest apple store is over an hour away for me. LOL! I emailed them photos and all of that jazz. So I ended up having to drive to the store anyways.

Well, more power to you, then. :D

Interesting.

Yeah I don't know what the deal was? Everyone was very helpful except when I requested a replacement without a $700 hold on my credit card. LOL! I also received a mystery black box phone. Still had the wrapping on it. Whether or not it has been refurbed I do not know. I can tell you that it looks brand new and the home button feels different. It feels more firm and I have to press a little harder. Not sure what that means if anything. Either way I'm completely happy with both the level of service and the new phone I received. :D

You should read the whole post, in this post and others, people have taken te same photo from two iPhone 4s and one has it one doesn't as well as those that have returned have gotten phones that do not have te yellow issue. That is the definition of proof that not all phones have the severe yellowing issue.

This post?

You mean this, from the OP?

I noticed my mom's iP4 (16GB) had the same problem, so I assumed it was an issue across the board.

It looks to me like he's saying they're both the same, not different.

I don't see any evidence in this thread. If you have others, feel free to post links to them.

I'm a she :), but yes...my mom and I appear to have the same issue. I need to take side by side photos to truly compare, but of the ones I've seen her take...she had the same problems indoors in their house.

I have seen another thread where a guy said his girlfriend's phone had better white balance results, but the photo was still yellow IMO...just not *as* yellow, so I'm not convinced this isn't widespread either.

Another board I'm on started putting little gender symbols beneath the user names. I thought it was funny at the time, but now I'm starting to think every site should do it! :D

Haha! Maybe so! Especially on here where I think 99% are male! Maybe one of these days when I finally get enough posts, I can make my avatar the same as my profile photo so it will be obvious I'm a girl! :D

Yeah, just in case we want to scare off the entire female contingent of the boards with a legion of sexually deprived male posters hitting on them at every turn. ;)

Even that doesn't help. The other board I'm on is a scifi board. Half the males have photos of female sci-fi characters up.

And most of the females have photos of their favorite male characters. It's REALLY confusing which is why they came up with the icon idea.

Yeah...it might not work here. The other board I'm talking about really is about 40% female. Things could get scary around here!

LOL! Totally agree! The Facetime thread on iPhone release day did get a little crazy!

There was a facetime thread? I must have missed that. I bet that was entertaining. I called the apple number instead. LOL! Got some random guy.

I am wondering if it has to do with the use of specific bulbs in my house. I use CFL bulbs, and I believe my parents do also. I know they have a tendency to throw off white balance in any camera. Wondering if I should try in a different area without CFL bulbs.

For those of you that have seen uber-yellow white balance...are you using CFL bulbs, or is it noticeable under any lighting circumstance?

My photos indoors with sunlight shining through or outdoors are just fine.

You can order CFL bulbs with different light output as measured in Kelvin and you will see a difference. As far as I know the iPhone 4 does not allow you to set it for ambient light values, so you would have to make adustments in software. I use CFL bulbs in my home and I search for bulbs that have a Kelvin rating of 5000 to 5500 which you can find. That kelvin rating seems to work for all kinds of pictures.

Here is a link that explains color temperature (Kelvin): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Color_temperature

I don't think the iPhone 4 was ever designed to be used other than average day to day point & shoot photography and to expect it to do more is unrealistic.

Thanks for the recommendation on the Kelvin ratings. I'll try some of those bulbs and see how everything reacts from there.

I'm not asking more from my iPhone than just a standard day to day point & shoot, but obviously I'd appreciate if my night-time indoor photos didn't look completely yellow. I used to have an iPhone 3G and never had any problems with the exact same CFL bulbs on my iPhone 3G. That tells me that it is some sort of issue (software or hardware, whatever it be) that is causing a funky white balance in these new iPhone 4 cameras.

Agreed! My wife is using my old 3g, and we compared the two phones last night in our CFL lit bedroom. The 3g reproduced the colors quite accurately, while the 4 had a yellow tint.

To add to the issue, in low light, the camera pics up a purplish tint. Anyone else experience that?

I beg to differ. Fill flash is fine when you have excessive amounts of light causing harsh shadows, but I never do shoots during this time of day, anyway. All of my photoshoots are set for early morning hours (right after sunrise) or the golden hour (right before sunset). I do a lot of wildlife photography, as well, and I never use flash in those situations.

Fill flash has its place in portrait photography, but flash can also ruin a good photo. Too many individuals use their DSLR pop-up flash and end up with horrific pin lights. My speedlight allows for fill flash or bouncing off of ceilings, walls, etc, when I don't have adequate ambient light...but I refrain from using it when I can.

The tiny LED flash on the iPhone should always be a last resort. Most photos will come out much better without the use of the LED flash. It just isn't an ideal flash mechanism.

stop talking about the iphone 4 camera like your a professional photographer. seriously....

Absolutely! In my opinion, the camera in the iPhone (and the majority of other mobiles) is so limited in the quality of its lens sensor etc it can hardly be described as a serious camera. It's more like a visual note-taker.

As has already been said, it is balanced for photos taken in sunlight and simple indoor shots using the inbuilt flash.

Underexposed photos taken in artificial lighting (particularly tungstan) will always exhibit a yellow/red cast.

Here is a picture of me inside with flash. It also happens without flash inside or out. I have just sent mine in to be exchanged, but they said they don't know when I will get a replacement because Camera issues are lowest priority.
