I just see it as a way to get a shiny replacement if something like that does go wrong :)

Yup. In a way, I'm hoping mine overheats. ;)

Yes,

Mine seems to be faulty as well.
3GS White 32Go.

I called Apple in France this morning, the apple tech asked me a picture of my phone (attached here), and immidiately agreed an exchange.
He is considering keeping my unit in the lab, to observe whats goin on.

The new iphone will be sent within 24/48hrs, as I cannot stay without a phone (work). UPS will collect the faulty iPhone later.

Great.
Just great.
4 cracks in my housing already, and now it may turn pick.
Awesome! Oh well, if this happens, at least Apple is a good company and will take care of their customers. Ive got 4 cracks but ill wait a while before reporting and replacing. I'd hate to take a phone from someone who has been waiting on it because I have some strictly cosmetic damage.

What about the black phones?

The people with white phones are somewhat lucky because they can SEE the discoloration to know they have a problem. I have a black phone and am now concerned that I will be unable to detect if there is a problem lurking.

So what you are saying is, what if my black iPhone discolours, but I can't see the discolouration, because it is black? ;)

Ditto but it seems fine thus far...no cracks, dead pixels etc but it did get really hot once during GPS/Compass/Map use

I Popped into a Apple shop in the Bullring today and spoke to a apple lady regarding the burn marks on the white iphones.

She said: She hasnt actually seen anyone with the issue, BUT Apple will NOT swap the units as they can only be burnt if they are "rubbed" against "something."

She went onto mention how "whole" of the back should be burnt rather than the outsides of the battery.

The battery obviously is flat and doesnt sit flush with the bend in the out/back casing.

It seems Apple inniately are not going to "care" of customers with new iphone 3gs white purchases.

You would have to see the inside of the case to see if it is an apple issue or from using a 2.00 leather case. I bought a 2.00 case from amazon that i'm sure would do something like stain the hell out of a white Iphone. I didn't even bring it in the house it stunk so bad. I wouldn't be surprised if alot of these complaints aren't apples fault. Alot of people are pissed everyone wants an Iphone.
