White iPhone 3GS units discoloring from excessive heat

Am I the only one who, after seeing that picture, would be interested in a beige iPhone colorway?

oh terrific..... so apple sold me a phone that is likely to overheat if i'm outside in the summer?

Store iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS in a place where the temperature is between -20º and 45º C (-4º to 113º F).

it can.... does.... and has gotten well over 113 degrees in the desert and i've been known to ride my bike in those temps (you get used to it..... to me 60 degrees is freaking freezin'!)

Is at least a portion of that photo (the discoloration to the iPhone) due to the lighting?

I see "rings" that are a lighter white than the rest, which looks like heat scaring in its self. I'm just curious if it's really that ... tan

I love this part.

"'One does not ... expect to reach under one's pillow and find an iPhone that passes for a handwarmer,' wrote her colleague David Coursey on Monday."

Trap the heat it is generating and of course it's going to get hot. I left my 3g on my chair one night charging to wake up in the mourning to find the cat had made a bed of it. It was rather hot too.

It's not underclocked. It's clocked at 600MHz.

Yeah I found that funny that they could tell from a teardown the chip was underclocked, lol. If I remember reading correctly the chip was designed to run at 600 but could be overclock to run at 833.

Wirelessly posted (iPhone 3GS (White, 32GB): Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7C97d Safari/528.16)

No; according to the SOC manufacturer, it's underclocked.

From Wired.com:
"The heart of the logic board is the CPU, the Samsung S5PC100 (both previous iPhones used the Samsung S3C6400). It runs at 600MHz, just as T-Mobile let slip last week, but according to Samsung’s spec sheet it can run at up to 833MHz and its native speed is 667MHz. This means that Apple is underclocking, presumably for better battery life."

Yes,

Mine seems to be faulty as well.
3GS White 32Go.

I called Apple in France this morning, the apple tech asked me a picture of my phone (attached here), and immidiately agreed an exchange.
He is considering keeping my unit in the lab, to observe whats goin on.

The new iphone will be sent within 24/48hrs, as I cannot stay without a phone (work). UPS will collect the faulty iPhone later.
