So I just took my bumper off and see the the top and bottom ridges there's a lot of paint chipped and little black spots. Not sure how it's happened, but kinda a bummer. Phone's been in the bumper since purchase and I haven't dropped it once.

Happen to anyone else? Is it a white thing or does it occur with both colors? Makes me want to consider a black 4S instead...

Could you show pictures? I'm not sure how the paint could chip because I think the paint is UNDER the glass unless I'm mistaken...

I was afraid it was a bumper problem....I was pretty careful about cleaning every now and then because I'd read about dirt, etc scratching the steel.

But my steel is pristine and my face has gross chipping now. Oh well. Going naked now and it feels much better (lol)

My iP4 is my only camera at the moment but I'll try to find a way to take some shots.

I know the paint is under the glass on the face and back, but the chipping is only appearing on the ridge at the top and bottom of the phone. That ever-so-slightly raised edge that surrounds the phone, know what I mean?

Bummer.

Use a mirror to get a photo of the phone...

Ah I see what you are saying. Well that is disappointing. I guess they just painted that white instead of using white plastic...

!!!!!!
This happened to my iPhone 4 too!
but it's not the paint chipping, it's actually the glass :(...

I thought it was the paint too, until I noticed (when the sun hit the glass)
that the glass was a bit chipped...

I don't even know how it happened, it just suddenly appeared

I never dropped my iPhone or anything!

Edit - If you need some pix of my iPhone 4 - just let me know

OP, threads with titles like

"white iPhone paint chipping"
"dropped iPhone in toilet"
"iPhone run over by a car"
"iPhone fell from the 100th floor"
"boss busted me watching porn on iPhone"
"shooting my naked GF on iPhone"

WITHOUT PICS

ARE INVALID!

Good to know. I'll try and post some - thanks for yelling.

I think I noticed similar things in the apple store last time I visited - I just thought it was because people manhandle them all day long. But I've been very delicate and gentle with mine, as I assume you have been too. Wonder if it's a widespread defect of some sort, or just an oh well that happens.

I would definitely like to see pics. How long have you had it?

Here are the pictures! I even added a Red Arrow to highlight on the "Chip".
It's exactly where the Screen-Protector ends

The "Chip" is noticeable when light hits it/without the screen protector,
but it really doesn't bother me much. It's happened before (with my Black iPhone 4) it also had a similar chip on the edge.. I thought for some reason it'd only happened to me LOL

The same thing is happening with my white iPad.

I am now extremely happy that I didn't buckle under pressure and get white. I really, really don't like those photos, even without the chips.

I'm very picky and I really don't see anything. It looks like light-reflection or something with that screen protector, which you should take off.

:( I actually put it on the iPhone, so that the chip wouldn't be so "visible" haha.
It doesn't really annoy me as much anymore...my iPhone 4S is on the way (Black). I just hope I don't get the "Chipped" glass anymore

Sounds more like the plastic bezel around the screen chipping rather than the glass? The glass does not go edge to edge so that would be a rather bizarre defect going on. On a black iPhone 4 the chipping of the plastic bezel (there's an actual name other than bezel but can't think of it) isn't as noticeable but the with white it's much easier to spot.

Tried to take some "mirror-shots" but nothing came out good. Thanks to the poster who put some pics up. It's pretty much exactly what's happened to mine, except mine is much more noticeable and darker.

Guess those considering a white 4S should just keep this in the back of their mind. Love the phone otherwise - brings back memories of my white 4G iPod.
