Update 12/25: Prototype has been sold to a prominent Jailbreak developer, for a good sum of money. Go to page 12 for more info.

For those uninterested in reading the whole thread, here are photos of the device taken by me, once I returned home the 22nd. Original post documenting the ebay auction at the bottom of this post.

[UPDATE]: I own the phone, I paid around 400$ for this phone

I was browsing ebay for broken iPhone 4's (I fix them), and I stumbled upon this.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...sPageName=ADME:B:EOIBSA:US:1123#ht_720wt_1219
The listing, says it is a broken white 16GB iPhone 4. But, if you look closely, you notice the tell tale signs of a prototype.
#1, unmarked volume buttons √
#2, XXGB on the back √
#3, no Metal lining around Camera opening and Flash opening √
#4, DFXXXX gray engraved number on front √
#5, unable to restore in iTunes √.

I bid, but I know for sure that I will not win. Let's help this get around!

Um, i think it's a listing of an idiot who tried changing the front and back and effed it up.

Were you referencing the "LCD case "marked # DF184" due to converted case".

Key words: DUE TO A CONVERTED CASE

Ha, ha, not a prototype. Just some moron putting bogus white parts on an iPhone. Of course he broke it in the process and dropped it in the toilet. Other than those minor details, it should be just fine..............not!!!

Move on and don't spend a dime on that POS.

+1 IMO ... it is an ebay scam

But what about the unmarked home buttons? And the XXGB on the rear, along with the metal lining around the camera not being there?

I don't see any XXGB on the back, it's just glare. As for the numbers on the front, I'm sure they wouldn't be too hard to fake, especially since it says in the listing that it's a converted case.

Is this by any chance your listing? You seem to be the only person saying that it's a genuine prototype.

No, this is not my listing. I have an ebay account and it is Mars478 as well. This:
http://myworld.ebay.com/mars478
is my ebay account, for further reference...

I've edited the image of the back to show where it looks like the XXGB is and the lining for the metal is not present.

And have you ever seen a digitizer with numbers like that on the front?

This is another prototype with similar markings.
Almost always, these prototypes are mis advertised as broken/for parts. I post this to see if you guys think it is, because regardless I doubt I'll win it.

And for further reference, this is a similar looking prototype (at least the glass pieces) http://www.idownloadblog.com/2011/04/26/white-iphone-4-prototype-for-sale-on-ebay/

I fail to see why people don't see this as a prototype. Most other prototypes are found in repair shots, with supposed problems...

I don't know about you, but it's not even possible to see the GB amount. The area is too dark and gray to make out any numbers or letters.

iPhone 4's don't have a GB measure on the back. The fact that there is and GB on the back makes me think it's a proto

Anyone could have purchased that back and put it on. Heck, it could even be photoshopped in.

It's not a prototype. It's a failed conversion, and a bad one at that.

So, tell me, where can I buy White iPhone 4 Parts that have "DF3XXX" Numbers on the front, and XXGB and no metal surround around the camera on the back.

Oh, and also, no marking on the Sound adjustment buttons...

Photoshopped, yes. That's possible...
But where can I get that back, and where can I get a front with DF numbers on the front?

Google. It's a wonderful tool.

Sorry, but that's not a prototype. I'll believe that it is when you win the auction and prove it. Until then, it's not.

I've been trying to find glass parts with DF on them but I can't find them. If you find me one, where I can buy it, I will retract my statements.

I am bidding on it, and I hope I win. Regardless, 350+ is a pretty good price for iPhone parts which i can use, regardless if it's a prototype or not.

But can you explain to me the absence of the markings on the volume buttons?

also as a note I've asked the seller for a serial number... I will provide it when he answers my message.

I think it's a dumbass who saw what prototypes go for, did the same Google you did for the differences and tried and horribly failed to make his look like one. It's amazing what stupid people who do for money!

This is also possible, and if I end up winning it, then the dumbass is me! But I didn't do a Google search for the differences, I know the differences from prior experience...

Well there is noticeable space underneath the "iPhone" logo, could be the "XX" you are talking about.

Yeah, see this is what I was referring to. I'm trying to contact the seller but he answered one of my messages but not the others. But regardless I'd be happy to pay that much for an iPhone I can easily use for parts.

I've removed the link to the listing so that I can possibly win the phone, and when I receive it can show that it is indeed a prototype... If I win it :D
