Well - the white iPhone 4 was proven to be thicker by a tiny bit.

Has anyone compared new 4S thickness to the old black and white iPhone 4?

Wheres the source? apple has them listed with the same specs... and if it is just "visual" evidence, you know that black and white have very different effects on the eyes.

If i remember correctly, that was false.... Black and White iPhone 4's are the same thickness.

I've been comparing my black iPhone 4 with my colleagues white ones, and we all agree on that the white one is a little thicker. However, this goes for the iPhone 4...

There are also a lot of image posts on unit comparisons that point out the same conclusion.

What practical issues does this cause? The white iPhone 4S could possibly be a hair thicker to account for the coating they put on the white paint to prevent it from yellowing ever.

The only time you'll ever, ever notice this is when you.....place a piece of mechanical pencil lead on top of two iPhones of opposite color put next to each other.

This is how apple thinks. It literally does not matter.

The world might come to an end! :D

Honestly it doesn't matter but it is out of pure curiosity... however the last time it managed to get quite some headlines which states a fact that it does matter to some people =)

I do notice the difference between my black 4 and my white 4S when it comes to my car cradle. It's a much tighter fit on the 4S

Well, they did a test and found out that they were actually the same thickness

Thought this was already discussed to death. Doesn't the white iPhone have a raised outer edge/lip compared to the black iPhone?

I just tried to put a screen protector on my wife's white 4S. There's definitely a bigger/thicker lip on the white one compared to all the black 4 and 4S phones I've handled. The screen protector was nearly impossible to get aligned correctly because of the lip. Literally being just a hair off and it wouldn't sit flat. Never had such trouble on all the black ones.

OK people, on my desk I have a black iPhone 4 and a white iPhone 4S. To my naked eye, the thickness is identical. I don't, however, have a white 4 to compare them with.

The weird thing is that my 4S is a much tighter fit in my car kit than my 4 was.

Some of the newer black iPhone 4's seem to have a more prominent lip; my replacement screen in July did. Actually made it easier to position a screen protector, the one I used must have been a little smaller than yours.
