Plastic materials that are exposed to UV rays (sunlight) can fade, in order to mitigate this they can add UV stabilizers to the plastic. This is used all of the time on the plastic in cars (the parts that are exposed).
I think it is a safe assumption a plastic like that was used. These types of stabilizers have been used for years and have undergone several thousand hours of real life exposure and also time in a weather-Ometer that can mimic years of service.
