Once you go black you never go back...heck my car is black, my PS3 is black, my PSP is black, my computer is black, and my Iphone 3G when I even get one will be black 16Gb.....

I beg to differ sir, my car is white, my 360 is white, my macbook is white, and my iPhone is white. Black isnt all that its hyped up to be:p

I think it has a lot to do with how you store your items...

my husband's wallet is a complete destroyer of any card with a magnetic strip on it. He's not dirty...but crap gets in his wallet like white on rice.

Other guys don't seem to have this problem...my theory is that it has to do with what way you keep your wallet in your pocket. (but there are different wallets too)

I guess what I'm trying to say is, one person may have problems with scratches and whatnot and someone else won't.

Maybe play around with different ways of storage.

Funny statement "my macbook only turned yellow where my palms rest, not on the top cover". Hmmm, I wonder where the back of the iPhone normally rests when it's in use? Black all the way for me!

Umm, I'm not sure if you know this, but the palm rest area of the MacBook is made out of a different material than the outer shell... it's matte. I don't see any iBooks, MacBooks, or mighty mice that have turned yellow. Palm rests don't count, they're a different material.

YOUR IPHONE WILL NOT TURN YELLOW.

Any plastic will change color over time. It just that some are more noticeable than others.

I am not sure if anyone notice it but if you take a look at your Macbook or any white chargers from Apple it kinda turns yellow. I am guessing it is because the heat makes the white turns into yellow. Also it looks so dirty from being kicked around on the floor with scratches everywhere and dirt being stuck between the scratches.

We all know how hot the iPhone can get right? (i meant hot as in temperature):D With you holding on to it all the time and the workload with the 3G.

BTW, the case of the iPhone is consider a wear and tear item so they will not replace it under warranty.

Whoever buys white and thinks it will stay WHITE forever must use bleach on their white socks all the time.

I guess only time will tell.

My point was that it's funny to say that only the palm rest areas of white Macbooks turn yellow when the back of an iPhone is also the palm rest area. - Not trying to say that a white iPhone will turn yellow, the debate is a bit premature considering the new 3G's have only been out for about a week, I'm sure it will take months before we know how well the new material on the back of 3G's will hold up to wear and tear.

Old iPods, Apple mice, chargers, nothing of mine has turned yellow yet. I think you are worrying over nothing.

Guess I missed the boat on this one...why would the white crack and not the black? (I bought white)

I have a MacBook. It's almost two years old, and neither the place where my palms rest nor any other parts are discolored.

On the other hand, a former co-worker of mine had a silver MB Pro and the gray where his hands rest got darker, and even his power cord is discolored.

I don't know what it is, but my 4- or 5-year-old HP iPod is still white. So I think I'll be ok with the white iPhone. Fingers crossed.

well it won't turned yellow because it is a glossy plastic material not matte like the palm rest of the macbook which absorbs dirt and humidity. Also in case of discoloration, that's when the warranty kicks in.

Just wanted to warn people that the white iPhone can be discolored. I kept my white iPhone in my old 1g iPhone Griffin Elan Holster case for the first few days; it still fit (albeit a little tight) and offered great protection However after a few days of sliding it in and out, i noticed that the iphone started to discolor a lovely shade of brown along the thicker part of the iphone casing. :(

Took it back to the Apple store and had it switched out no problem, but just wanted to warn folks to be careful with the white. The discoloration ran deep, no amount of cleaning solution was getting it off.

Could moisture or something have gotten in the case...that caused it to 'bleed' onto the plastic.

Is the inside suede, leather...?

Just curious, thanks!

Yep- Day 4 and my iPhone 3g White is turning yellow...

Ouch. Seems to be in a bar shape over the center of the back. If you look at step 11 here - it seems to match the shape of that cutout under the battery.

The color change is *under* the surface in the white plastic, the clear overlay is still pristine (it is day 4 after all...).

Will be taking it back to Apple to get some satisfaction (maybe switch to black...).

Hey guys, how do you think the white iphone will look over time compared to the black - will it start to yellow/go brown? I have a feeling the glossy plastic will hold up and not absorb dirt, not sure how it compares to the black with scratches. I'll probably go without a case or a skin on either colour iPhone.

It's okay if it does since this mostly a girl color and girls love yellow!

 Oh boy. Too hot? I hope that's a one-off, because I'll be raising hell if my phone turns yellow.

Can you post pics? Please?

I wasn't worried about it until that post. I tend to upgrade and sell my phones every 18 months or so, and I couldn't imagine any yellowing happening within that time frame.

Mine has a nice black box in the middle of the back...going to the applpe store today or tomorrow....

Hey guys, how do you think the white iphone will look over time compared to the black - will it start to yellow/go brown?
I sure hope so. I'm in a white phase right now, and before I bought a white iPhone 3G I bought a candy white VW Golf GTI. I thought the iPhone would match my car, but as it turned out, 'white' is a relative term. The iPhone looks a bit like ivory but when you hold it up against the car, the iPhone looks chlorine blue-ish white and the car looks yellow. I'm going to leave the iPhone face down in a sunny window, hoping it will work up a nice tan. :D

those images do not justify the white iphone turning yellow, light is one of the greatest factors in your images, also notice how it looks unusually white with a dark background *Green, than the picture with the iphone on top of a white background...

it will turn yellow if it's a lemon.

Amen.

Black 160GB iPod classic, black iPod nano, black & aluminum iMac, black Toyota Yaris, black clothes (all of them), and soon to be a black iPhone 3G.

God, I love this company.

+1, Black VW bug, black interior, black ipod classic, black and aluminum iphone (soon to be black 3g) black ipod nano, black ps3, and two black mini schnauzers :D

I used to have the white imac, white ipod, white mustang etc but when I switched to my black car everything else went black or silver.
