Hi, I'm heading off to college next year and I'm trying to find the right laptop. I've narrowed my decision down to the white macbook and the 2.4 uMB. For the 2.4 uMB, I like the glass touchpad, light up keyboard, unibody, and of course the extra power. But the only way I see myself getting the 2.4 uMB is if it is upgraded or gets a price cut at WWDC. The white macbook seems like a good option for me (especially with the back to school promo.) Although I still have a few questions about the white macbook.
    1. Does the white macbook have a LED backlit screen?
    2. Do uMB's have better screens than white macbooks, or are they the same?
    3. Does the white macbook have multi-touch?
    4. Is there a big difference between DDR2 and DDR3 SDRAM?
    5. Can a 2.13 white macbook handle a little gaming such as sims 3, and video editing with iMovie?
Thanks for the help guys, I appreciate it.:apple:

Thanks, but it didn't quite answer my questions. Does anybody by chance know the answer to these?

    1. No, whitebooks do not have LED backlit screens.
    2. Even though I've not always been a fan of the umb's screens, IMO they're an improvement over the whitebooks.
    3. Whitebooks do not have the large glass trackpad of the umb's, and do not have all of the multi touch capabilities of the newer models.
    4. No, not really.
    5. The 2.13 has the same graphics card as the umb's, so yes.

The new whitebooks are an excellent value for the money, however.

There was recently a rumor on here saying that macbook screens were quietly updated in April, it mentions the uMB but did this apply to the white macbook as well?

Now I'm confused, you said that the white macbook doesn't have a LED backlit screen. But here it says that it does.

there is absolutely nothing on Apple's site that states the White macbook uses an LED backlit display.

...if the whitebook did use an LED backlight on the screen just like the UMB, there'd be no reason to get a UMB...

As a broke college student myself, my vote goes to the WhiteBook.

    1. The white MacBook is not LED backlit, that feature is reserved for the unibodys.
    2. Yes, the quality of the displays is far higher, and with the LED backlight, they are a lot brighter too.
    3. The white MacBook supports two-finger scrolling, tap, double-tap, and drag only.
    4. It depends what you're doing. DDR3 will give the uMBs an advantage when it comes to gaming and graphics tasks as the NVIDIA 9400 shares the main RAM.
    5. It can handle iMovie easily. I would imaging the SIMs will play OK.

As far as your choice goes, I would personally get the uMB, but the white MB is still a great machine.

    Probably just a mistake, yes.

Why aren't you considering the 2.0 MacBook?

Because the thing that really sells me about the uMB is the backlit keyboard, and the 2.0 just doesn't have it.

That is the only difference (apart from the 400MHz processor difference)

The white MacBook has FireWire. The Unibody does not.
