Hi All,

So like some of you I have had difficulty finding a new 10.5 iPad Pro wi-fi/cellular 512GB with a good screen.
I have attached a screenshot of the line flash on start-up, I also have a video of it that I can post if you'd like to see it in action, its very concerning.

Also attached is a pure white screen in the app Notability, I'm using it to see if the yellowish area above the home button shows up. This yellow issue above the home button on whiter colored screens varies for some reason. Sometimes I can easily see the yellow all the way across the width of the iPad and sometimes its barely noticeable.

Sadly this is the best 10.5" Pro I've had so far....The others we opened in the Apple store were unsellable, our Apple business account guy was speechless.

Mine has the white start up line too. Only for about a half second. I doubt it's an issue. Wondering if the next ios version will change it. I find it odd that it takes so long to power on as well. My wife's takes about 1 second less.

I get a line at start up and shut down on my iPhone. It has been like that since day 1. Other than the line at start up and shut down it has been flawless. Since I rarely start it up or shut it down and since it hasn't effected anything else, I have never been too bothered by it. But if you are concerned, you know what you have to do :)

Interesting. Perhaps others maybe have not seen this before. This is new to me. But it doesn't seem to be anything of an issue were affects the display only for a brief moment.

Mine isn't static, its actually fairly bright. On shut down it starts small and goes pretty much the width and then shrinks again. It is very reminiscent of what old CRT's, particularly TV's would do on shutdown. This happens right across the middle of the screen.

On startup, right after the Apple Logo disappears, I get a solid white (usually) line in the upper right that stretches about half the width of the phone, for a split second before the OS loads. I say usually white, because it is occasionally red. But otherwise it doesn't seem to manifest itself anywhere else, just during shut down, power up or reboot.

Try this Youtube link guys....Hope it works. Look right at the bottom bezel, you'll see the brief static line appear. It appears randomly if different areas of the screen.
Well....that was supposed to be a 5 second video, I trimmed it but see it didn't save...Sorry, not a YouTube pro.

Here's a better video, use full screen viewing to see. The static line appears just a little below the Apple logo

I've seen this over the years on iPads, iPhones, even my macs and always been a non-issue other than being visually concerning for a second or two up on a boot, and shutdown (in some cases)

Personally, I wouldn't worry about it at all especially if everything else is to your liking.

IMHO, as always.

Hi M5,
Thanks for replying, I appreciate it. If this were the only issue I'd maybe probably keep it...But the yellowish uneven tone on white backgrounds above the home button is the main reason for this iPad getting returned. I'll possibly revisit an iPad 10.5 purchase 6 months or so from now.

So just got my 4th iPad and upon startup the screen either displays some random white lines or the Apple logo flickers. The last 3 units did not do this but had other issues. Should I be concerned this is a ribbon cable issue or is anyone else seeing this?

I no longer have my 10.5. I went through several of them looking for a screen that didn't exhibit yellow shades and flickering static white lines. I actually started a thread here regarding the static white lines that flash across the screen at start up. I might try another 10.5 this winter to see if things have changed, if not I'm more than happy with my new 13" MBP.

Well at least I know it's not an isolated issue, thanks for your reply and enjoy your MBP. Looks like I'm off to the store for the 5th time.

Mine does this too....

My 10.5 pro wifi/cell 256gb started showing up today. I have had this iPad since about a week or 2 since they came out.

This is very annoying since a vertical and horizontal line connect and it looks like it turning an excel and it flashes nonstop. I can't deal with it. I'll take it to the store and have it asap. I restarted the iPad a few times and it doesn't help.

I'll try iOS 11 tomorrow if it helps?

I'll edit my post with a pic tomorrow.

I first noticed this on my 13 inch ipad after the ios 11 update. so its not just the 10.5 that is affected by this

Looks like what happens when a IPS display is powering up...sometimes powering on sends a surge through display power connectors which makes a artificially temporary dotted imprint through certain pixels. Nothing serious....

Aforementioned, I had the same issue with ios10 and nothing changed from the ios11 update.

Apple replaced my iPad Pro yesterday without an issue.
