I am looking at getting a 10.5 inch used iPad Pro. I will be mainly using it for flying my DJI Mavic Pro and media consumption. I could get a 64gb model in space grey (so a black bezel) for £450, or for £100 more I could get a silver one with 256gb data. Both are unlocked cellular models.

I am leaning towards the silver one due to the higher storage but am concerned that perhaps the white bezel will be distracting?

What are your thoughts?

The white bezels ARE distracting, especially when watching shows and movies. For example, what TV has white bezels? Answer is none of them do, because having a white border/bezel is an eye sore and detracts from the viewing experience.

Space grey/black bezel all the way.

I have white bezels on both iPad and iPhone, no video/iBooks, etc. issues.

For me it is just a colour preference. You have more prominent “black holes” for cameras and sensors in the white bezels. On the plus side, however, white bezels also hide fingerprints/smudges better.

I tend to like a white boarder for web browsing or reading books and a black one for watching movies. But really, it hardly makes any difference.

I have had 3 iPad Mini's over the years and I have, by choice, bought each one in a color that has a black bezel. As is discussed above, that it for better contrast when watching videos and other content, which I mostly do on the mini.

On my 2 iPhones over the years (and before that my iPod Touch 4G), I have always bought a device color with a white bezel, primarily for better visibility. Dark phones and bezels can easily get lost in briefcases, etc. The white ones are easier to spot in dark places.

I have a black bezel 10.5 iPad Pro. I bought it because I figured the white would be distracting. However, my girlfriend had a white bezel iPad and I always thought it looked “lighter”, just sitting on a table or shelf. I know it’s a psychological trick of the mind, but I like the clean loook of white iPads. I may get a white one next time around, if they’re even offered in white once they include FaceID versions.

Thanks for all the replies. I reckon I’ll get the silver one - for the small extra cash the bonus of having four times the storage is really worth it.

OK, well spotted, my bad! You win a team-point. But of course there are many...

However, I don’t understand this black bezel causes less distraction nonsense. I have a black a TV. It’s mounted on my wall which is white. There’s a huge contrast with the bezel and wall. Maybe I should paint my walls black?
Sure, you can find a handful with non-black bezels, but it is obvious that the overwhelming majority of TVs produced have black bezels. There's a reason for that.

It's highly subjective and depends upon how one perceives color. For me, white bezels cause the colors on the screen to appear "washed out". When watching videos that are not of the same aspect ratio as the screen, the black bezels help to reduce (not always eliminate) the effect that letterboxing and pillarboxing have. I have an iPad with white bezels and I find the black gap between the bezel and active part of the screen to be distracting, an outline in addition to a bezel.

If white bezels are not distracting to you, then you most likely perceive color and brightness different than I do. There's no right or wrong color bezel (even though I think some of the hyperbole around it is nothing more than good-natured joking around)... and there's a reason why Apple only makes one iPad chassis color with a black bezel.

The guy said that there weren’t any. He was wrong and I was just correcting his error.

However, the reason most TV’s are black is because black is trendy. There’s no other reason. I’m old enough to remember when TV’s came in all sorts of colours. My parents had a red TV - maybe they perceived the world in an odd way? I guess it could be genetic. Or maybe it was the fashion. Silver was certainly popular for a while. But then silver was in and trendy, especially for sound systems. Now it’s gone out of fashion. It’s no more than fashion and has nothing to do with how people perceive colour and brightness.

Next someone will say white is for girls and black is for men with big... or maybe women perceive colour and brightness differently.

Bezel color aside, that's a big selling/buying point.

I think it is, but I guess it depends on your usage. I use my iPad mostly for business and could manage with iCloud for extra space. However, when I go away or on holiday (sometimes to places with rubbish internet connection) it’s great to be able to load the iPad up with video etc and not worry about storage.
