Live in the moment Dave. Buy one when you really would love one AND then deal with what the future holds. I'm a HUGE Apple TV fan - it's my ONLY AV box and when ATV 4K launched last year, I was so happy to see so many 4K Dolby Vision film and a few weeks later, automatic frame rate sensing on the ATV. And 4K films priced the same as HD to stream. It was unexpected and brilliant.

You can always sell your MacBook in two years if a new Apple product takes your fancy. Look at the iPhone X, to me it's perfect and has instantly made all of the other iPhones look incredibly dated over night :) :) :)

Live in the moment because tomorrow is never guaranteed :)

This is very true! I’m so tempted to buy one after WWDC even if they don’t update them at the keynote, I’m meeting up with some friends in July that I haven’t seen in a while, we will be going around London for the day I’m so tempted to just go into and Apple store and buy one!

I’m not sure about the ARM rumour according to Mark Gurman on Twitter he says that code name isn’t a MacBook at all but a version of the 2018 iPhone. Only time will tell, if there are no updates to the Macbook this year I’m in a tricky one, do I wait until next year or just jump on the current one which is over a year old.

The 2017 MacBook is a wonderful little computer, and I think it could easily go through another year "as is," although of course updates would be appreciated by many users. When I had the 2016 12" MacBook, I really liked it but the minute the 2017 was announced, with the faster processor and ability to configure it with 16 GB RAM and a slightly improved keyboard, I knew I wanted one, even though it meant taking a bit of a financial hit on my 2016, which was just a year old..... It was worth it. Now I don't feel anything lacking in my 2017 MacBook and will be perfectly happy to see whatever is announced, if something is announced on Monday, but I won't have the urge to immediately swap out my current MacBook. Although like most other users, I wouldn't object to having a second port on my machine, I really rarely ever plug anything other than the charger into my MacBook now, so for me that is not an issue.

If you want and need a 12" MacBook now, see what happens on Monday, but don't let an announcement of a refreshed MacBook or the absence of such an announcement be the deciding factor as to whether or not you are going to purchase one. The 2017 as it is now can easily hold its own for months to come or even another year if need be....

TRULY AGREE buddy. The same thing happened to me. 2015 M5 model with AppleCare - 1 year in, the batteries truly died and CPU fault. Apple agreed to let me move to a brand new 2016 M5. I sold this model to a friend who was desperate for a fab MacBook for uni at a cheaper price and went for the i5 MacBook with the 512GB SSD as of my 2015 and 2016 models.
The 2017 just feels like the right one - it's a speedy lil thing - mind you, so was my 2016 model. Although I LOVED all three, this is just beautiful. I'm excited to see what happens in 2019 being honest and very excited for this years iPhone line-up - I'd love a tiny version of my iPhone X with its outstanding OLED display :)
And then there's Apple TV 4K which to me, is truly perfect in every way. Maybe Dolby Atmos will come to it with tvOS 12 :)
[doublepost=1527716568][/doublepost]PS Dave are you excited for Monday? Can't wait to see what iOS12, tvOS 12 and Mac OS will bring :)

It looks like the price has increased here in the UK. I paid £1199 last Thursday. It’s now showing £1249. That makes me happy!

OH WOW London! One my my haunts - Make sure that you go for a lovely stroll around Hampstead - Carluccio's is lovely there for a catch up espresso or lunch! And don't forget Camden :) and then take a stroll around Notting Hill and call into the proper Italian pizzeria with the old Fiat 500 in the window for a slice of true Italian pizza :) :) :)

Design wise - my Favourite Apple store in London is the Covent Garden one - three floors and a great international vibe! BTW Occasionally John Lewis offers a 3 year warranty on MacBooks free of charge. Worth keeping your eyes open for :)

Well this is what I paid. Maybe they had an offer on?

Yes. Originally the MacBook was £1050 and then the Brexit thing happened and over night on the launch of the MacBook Pro, the MacBook had a 20% price increase to £1249. I WAS HORRIFIED as I felt that the MacBook was due for a £100 price drop to £950.
Heartbreaking as you are basically giving away £200 for no reason whatsoever. Maybe Teresa May can reimburse every individual. (before she emigrates in a year or two!!!!!!).

Yea they must of had an offer on because through Apple they have always been that price. Once Brexit happened we saw an increase in prices.

London is great, i live in the U.K but i still love London and meeting up with old friends is the perfect place to do it. I love going to a place called Paul their sausage rolls are to die for! The Apple store in Covent Garden is brilliant easily one of my favourites, however my nearest one is in Birmingham so i don't get to go to the London one half as much as i would like to. The Birmingham one is also nice but i do love the Covent Garden one. (see the picture i took on my last visit a couple of weeks ago while down their for business).

Camden market is great if the weather is nice, i also love going down to Oxford street they have some really great clothes stores i could spend all day down there however most of the time seems to be spent in meetings or business of some sort, luckily tho on my next trip it's simply to catch up with old friends so i'm happy about that :) i find time can easily get away and it's so easy to lose touch with people.

Price's did rise for most things after Brexit, the MacBook Pro's are very expensive i think the prices should of dropped by now but for some reason Apple haven't done so. The Surface range is also expensive for example the Surface Book 2 starts at over £1000, i'm not sure if that's also because of Brexit.

The less said about May the better she clearly needs to go.

She most certainly does! I get so angry when I read about her evil ways!
That's a lovely photo of the Covent Garden store. Have you seen the Burberry shop near there? I like their ties very much! I bought a small DB bag from them that is 28cm and fits the MacBook absolutely perfectly. It's a stunner. Sadly it cost nearly as much as the MacBook but it'll last a lifetime!
HA, I know 'Paul' very well - it's a French food bakery isn't it! I love it.
I lived in London - West Hampstead for 3 years 2010-2013 and had a great time - people always come up and talk to me on the tube :) :) :)
YES STILL waiting for Apple to drop their prices. Wasn't the last price drop on MacBook Pro's way back in early 2013?
I've never been to Birmingham but some friends moved there to work at KERRANG Radio a few years ago and loved it :)

I haven't been to the Burberry shop yet i will have to check it out now that you've mentioned it. Paul's is brilliant the food is great and i love their coffee. The last time the Mac had a price cut i believe was 2013 yes, i really think they are over due to do the same maybe they are waiting until new ones before dropping the price. The Mac needs some attention.

I thought exactly the same, even had visions of a refurb for about £849 then bosh.

How wrong we were!

I don’t store anything on my Macs and can get by just fine with 128 GB. I have 90 GB free right now on my 128 GB MBA.

Same with my iPhone. I have 46 GB free on my iPhone X. The cloud changed everything for me.

So do you store all your iTunes on iCloud? If so have would I go about doing this?

I use iTunes Match. $25 a year. All my music is uploaded to iCloud and accessible on all my Apple devices. Nothing is stored locally anywhere.

OK thanks. I think you get iTunes Match with Apple Music? Might just use this rather than store on this Mac.

So...this is interesting, but...

"If you use iTunes Match you won’t have access to your Playlists but you will be able to play music according to albums and genre, and individual tracks"

I use playlists *a lot.* Will it wipe out my playlists? (Going to Google this.)
I have no idea what Macworld is talking about. I can access all my playlists just fine.

Cool. And thanks. For $25, it's worth a shot. Still won't help me when I'm out of wifi and cell range, but it could be a really big storage plus the rest of the time, especially since my music library is so big that it would cripple the local storage on this 256GB MB.

I believe that what MacWorld may have been pointing out is that iTunes Match and Apple Music DO NOT work well together. In fact, those having iTunes Match and then going over to Apple Music is where HUGE problems appeared for customers. For example, many users LOST their own ripped copies of CDs etc in their iTunes collection.

I value my iTunes music collection too much - I've built it up over 15+ years and there's NO WAY That I'd ever go over to Apple Music or even iTunes Match because of this. I'd rather have it it ONE PLACE, downloaded to my lovely MacBook which I backup every week. It's too special to me PLUS i've replaced lots of cover art with my own pictures of something that reminds me of a time when I first heard or loved the song.

IF Apple Music was truly separate just like Spotify THEN i'd subscribe but the fact that it's tied into your iTunes is a no no for me!

I buy ALL of my film from iTunes and Vimeo (for surfing/skiing/snowboarding film) and i'm happy to leave them in the iCloud - as I need that for Apple TV 4K anyway (BUT I've downloaded the ones that I treasure). But even then, the distributor of an independent film DELETED and replaced the file of the film and I LOST IT - even though i'd purchased it!

Make sure that you keep ALL of your original music downloads backed up if you are using Cloud services.
For me, my lifetime of music is too important and beautiful for me to not have downloaded.

I have a Apple 2TB Airport Time-capsule. I don't really understand it but can't I store my iTunes on that? Is that not a hard drive? I think I've looked into this before and found that I can't but I don't understand why? What's the 2TB for?

Thanks - so - is it viable to maintain my local iTunes music library as I always have, either ripping CDs or importing music from other sources or adding music from the iTunes Store - and backing that up, as I do - and just letting iTunes Match keep itself synced to my local machine? Will iTunes Match do that?

I agree totally with our feelings about your library. Mine has been going for 20+ years. Can't even imagine trying to rebuild it from scratch...

If you have all your music backed up onto an external hard drive (as I'm sure you do and everyone should) then there is no reason to keep your music locally stored on your MacBook. Once you add all your music to iTunes on any Mac, and activate iCloud once you join iTunes Match, it all gets uploaded or matched and you are good to go. Once you delete all your music on your Mac it's up in iCloud. There really is no danger at that point. You have all your music on an external hard drive and in iCloud at that point. No reason to keep it locally on your MacBook unless you want to access music from the MacBook in area where you don't have wi-fi.

My collection is very personal to me too. It started with CD's I purchased starting in 1992, imports from Italy, bootlegs, custom artwork, etc.

Once you join iTunes Match and active iCloud within iTunes, everything you add to your iTunes library will sync with iCloud. If you want to also keep your music locally stored on your Mac, you can. I personally don't. The majority of the time I play music is from my iPhone which is already synced with my iTunes library thanks to Match. So I'll add music to iTunes, make sure it's uploaded to iCloud, add the music to my external, and then delete from my Mac.

Thanks. I have my iTunes library on a dual-drive Mini. I have also had a copy on my 13" rMBP. (The rMB is a very recent experiment and it doesn't have any music on it at this point.). I do regular backups to an external drive.

My takeaway here is that I can dump the local copies on the laptop, keep and maintain the library on the desktop and let iTunes Match make a copy available on iCloud so that I can listen to it on my phone, iPad or laptop(s). That works very well for me as a combination of local data security and online/remote access. (Assuming that I'm understanding how this all interacts...)

Thanks. I understand that the local copies are in theory unnecessary, but I am belt-and-suspenders when it comes to data.
