Anyone grab any stock today, 10-9-08, for less than $90 per share?
Wirelessly posted (iPhone: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/525.18.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1.1 Mobile/5F136 Safari/525.20)
I haven't. But, it is a good buy like everything else is on today's market.
If someone made a put on the stock when it was at around $175, that person will be buying a lot of Apple products with the money they would have made.
The idea is to buy low and sell high. That person would be starting a thread to encourage people to buy more AAPL and drive the price higher.
Anybody who sold at the $200 mark would be buying again, albeit in smaller amounts. Supply outstrips demand for AAPL, so the price is going to be low for some time. Confidence in them is too low for demand to spike soon.
Or you could have gone short at $175...
None for me. All mine was bought at under $9.50.
I bought the 200 Call option for APR 2009...so cheap! and AAPL has spiked every January in the last few years!
Let me understand that. You have purchased a contract that allows you to buy Apple shares for $200 a share at anytime between now and April 2009?
If that is the case, Apple shares would have to go up over 100% just to break even, and if they more then double, that is profit? And that would happen over 6 months?
How much do those contracts cost? Where do you look them up?
I understand investing, but never dabbled into Options etc.
Yes, I do have the option to buy AAPL at 200 between now and APR 18 '09. BUT, I can also sell these contracts anytime between now and APR 18 2009. So, if AAPL shoots up $30 a share, this option will increase in price accordingly. So, if in JAN AAPL jumps $30 a share, i may see a 50% increase in the option price. i bought +APVAT (option ticker symbol), you can look them up on google finance (allllll the way at the bottom of the page) or if you have an account at a brokerage you can get streaming options prices.
(needless to say, I don't plan on holding this option until APR 09) ( and I bought X amount of contracts at $0.80 per share and a contract is 100 shares)
Are you serious? When?
That is pretty damn cool!! What are your long term plans for the stocks?
Could have been as recent as June of 2003. The current price of AAPL has only been high since the iPhone announcement. GIANT bubble. I may look into some more if it gets back under $50.
Ahh, that was the piece I was missing. You then can sell the contracts anytime between now and the expiration date.
So you have two forces acting, how close to the current price is the contract for (closer = more valuable option, even to the point of being 'in the money') and how close to the expiration (closer = less uncertainty = less volatility in the price)
I pretty much purchase Apple stock each month. When the price dips down I purchase a little more. I have been purchasing Apple stock for a while now. The up's and downs don't really bother me. I am pretty much in it for the long haul unless something drastically bad happens to Apple.
Who you kiddin.
1999-2000, pre-split (original shares at 19).
Wish I had them back! I sold at 135 or so to cover some other costs when I bought my house.
one of my limit orders snagged some. but the bulk of my buys were around 95
