Wireless charging is awesome. I use it all the time on my S7 Edge. The fact that it sounds like Apple is going to make it proprietary on the iPhone is utter nonsense and a cash grab. Too bad. Would have been nice for them to use the same standard that everyone else uses. Not really a surprise though. Sounding more and more like I'm sticking with Android. The more I hear about what Apple is allegedly doing with the iPhone Edition, the more it sounds like a no-go.

I'd wager those saying it's useless are those that have never tried it.
I have it in the car as well as a workstation at work and it's pretty cool to just be able to put a device on and charge. No ugly cables that split and don't last long or fumbling around...

I'm firmly in the yes camp, it was the best feature on the Apple Watch.

I'm not buying a new iphone this year anyway, but wireless charging is a total bust for me.

For starters, I use my iPhone while it's being charged, ie. it's not in contact with the charging pad.

Until Apple figures out a way to use inductive charging...I'll keep plugging in.

Inductive charging is how wireless charging is currently working for things like toothbrushes, Apple watch, android phones with wireless charging etc.

Apparently, I have my definitions mixed up then...no matter, if inductive charging is what we have now and it relies upon the device being on a charging pad of some sort, well...I'm not interested.

I hold my phone in hand while charging and typing.

You all will be when the iPhone finally gets it.. you know you will still be able to plug it in (with a cord), right? AND if you understand that then the downside to wireless charging is what exactly again?

I could care less. As others have said I sometimes use my phone when charging and obviously that would be difficult sitting on a charging pad.

Even worse, for me, losing the matte metal finish.

If my iPhone is stationary, it's charging. And I use my iPhone while it's charging quite frequently. Therefore, wireless charging wouldn't be in my best interest. Although, I will see if it's something that I may consider later on.

LOL
I also don’t need it and my opinion won’t change during the keynote. With about 1100 Euros the iPhone Edition is just to expensive for me and if the main feature of the 7s is wireless charging many people will take the discount and go for the 7.

The question is: what can you do with wireless charging that can’t be done with cable charger? It’s nice to have but that’s it.

Sure it isn't yet "truly wireless" charging and you still need a cable and you have to be tethered to a pad... blah, blah blah... doesn't mean it it's inconvenient or not handy - I enjoyed on my Nexus 4 - it didn't save a ton of time, but it is nice to just set down and charge, just like the watch

I can charge my phone without plugging it in, that can't be done with a phone without wireless charging. I don't have to look around in the dark for the cable or find the cable that fell behind the night stand or end table. I can just set the phone on the charger. Its called being bull headed. If you never had wireless charging then I guess you just don't get it.

I don’t get why you are sitting in the darkness?!

But I'm not saying that wireless charging doesn't have somes pros.

I'm merely saying that for my use case - charging while picking up and typing/using the phone for long periods of time - wireless charging doesn't benefit me.

I'm not sitting in the dark, the wife goes to bed before I do and usually she sleeps in the dark. I guess I could just flip the light on she would love that. Its fine don't ever use it I couldn't careless.

I believe I read Apple will use the qi standard, albeit the first generation, but they will.

And I just read and saw a couple of videos that claim Apple with use a lower wattage, meaning the existing qi wireless chargers (any of them out there you can buy for $5 on Chinese sites for example), will not work because the wattage is different and also I've heard there will be some sort of check to ensure you are using an Apple branded wireless charger or a licensed by Apple wireless charger. Another cash grab it seems. Too bad because many will simply not use wireless charging if they have to get a proprietary charger that costs so much more than what already exists.

I'm with others on this - if it's not QI, I'm not interested. Moreso because it's use case for me would be in the car, and car manufacturers are going to love having to have apple's standard as yet another option...

Im more interested in fast charging than wireless charging. I won't t buy apple charging pad, ill use my Apple usb c 29w charger instead.

I can't believe apple couldn't find one available engineer to design a fast wireless charging circuit for the 1000$+ iPhone. I thought Apple didn't add technology until it was perfected? Well fast wireless charging has been around for a while now, couldn't they have just take one of the Android phones apart and look at it? My guess is it has something to do with the processor because doesn't fast charging have something to do with the qualcomm processor?

Rather than a charging pad, I'd prefer a charging 'tray', where multiple devices can be placed on it. If I can do away with the separate cables I now use for the iPhone & ipad & be able to plonk them on the one wireless charging tray, then I could start to see extra benefits.

That's an even longer way away though, seeing as wireless charging is slow with just one device connected?
I guess it's not as long a wait as I thought. The Airpower charging 'platter' may be a thing next year then.
