Any unawnsered questions?

You asked for our opinions and people didn't believe you… it's quite expected. After all most people who post on here about the maximum configuration have no idea what they're doing.

We're telling you that you're friend either made a bad decision or it's unbelievable enough that we don't even believe you won anything. The problem with posted said question is what is damaging your credibility. For example, why did you're friend by Xsan management software and the fibre channel card? Is he going to spend another $50k on storage solutions? I'm going to guess not? Why did he get Final Cut Express? It's alright, but anyone who buys that configuration should be using Final Cut Studio; then you'd need to get a couple good video cameras. Your friend chose OS X Server; nice OS to use I can attest to, but does your friend own other computers that would need the resources of a server OS? You know $3000CAD is not going to cover the SAN solution, the video cameras, etc.; this is why I think (and would assume many would agree) this is a poorly made decision.

Let's list the things he didn't need or isn't going to. If your friend is spending money like this [I don't want to be judgemental, but I am], I doubt he can afford the stuff that goes with these:
1) Fibre channel card: He'll need some external storage solutions for this. Starting with an enclosure. Then he'd need drives. This would cost maybe $3000 upwards depending on needs [which are non-existent].
2) Xsan: He doesn't have a SAN network to manage, so that was money wasted.
3) Mini DP adapters: Why? He only has 2 monitors, both have connectors on the video cards, so why the additional adapters? Also even if he did need adapters, why the heck did he only get one dual-link adapter?
4) Final Cut Express: I think iMovie would have sufficed. Final Cut Express feels a bit weak to me. Anyway does your friend have a camcorder? If not, caulk up on buying that.
5) Aperture: Why does your friend need a photo management software? Why the heck did he only get 2TB of SSDs if he does. That's ridiculous.
6) SSDs & RAM: Anyone who knows what they're buying would have gone proper research before making the purchase. They would have saved money by buying from companies like OWC or NewEgg.

And what? No AppleCare?!

Even if this is found money, you should still be able to manage your spending well enough to do research.

If you don't want all the negativity and the criticism, you should not have posed the question here.

Yes I'm quite envious of that computer's specs, but that's about it.

I'm not even going to go into your choice of a car…

I have had better spelling when I was in my first class of school when I was seven. Writing like that does not really convince me of your maturity, but as there is no incentive on your side to so, and no intention on my side to have prove, post away. At least you came back to reply, in what ever fashion you saw fit.

Btw, why didn't you go with a Prius or any other Hybrid?

Anyway, if that story of yours is true, your friend is idiotic to spend so much money on parts he never needs, if you don't know which I mean, just re-read the thread, as the configuration sounds like one you would do for fun to see how much money all the parts cost.

I bet your friend could sell his purchase, right now, for more than you could sell yours. This will be even truer in a year.

It's BS. This guy basically selected EVERY selectable option on the Mac Pro configuration page and posted this thread. Nothing more.

It's not cacatus bos tarum, it's genuine. Just look at the flawless articulation of the OP and the mild manners he (female posters don't drive such cars) shows the world and especially us. And think of the missing prejudice on who chose better, as he is so kind to not even hint at the vague possibility and his thinking, that is choice is the best.

I wish we had more posters like him, maybe we should make him a logo or something.

We still should add some sarcasm tags to the VBB code list.

I think hybrids suck… especially the abomination called the Prius.

In what way?

I have never driven one or read that many reviews about them, but I find the thought of using a semi-electrical car quite fascinating. It is a start in the right direction to abandon petroleum based engines completely. It will take decades, but we have to get there, there is not that much oil left anyway.

It's purely my opinion and observations, but I find the cost of replacing the batteries and the added cost of the same over the price of the an equivalently equipped petro engined vehicle does not warrant said cost over the lifetime of ownership. In other words, the batteries are expensive to replace and they do die. Plus the replacements are not covered by warranty and if you drive a lot they will need to be replaced quite often. And the batteries are not environmentally friendly.

Personally if I want a fuel efficient vehicle, I'd pick a diesel.

Thanks for the info, have some reading up to do I guess, but if I ever buy a car (a decade or two to go I guess, if ever), there will already be those flying ones Avery Brooks asked for I guess.

I don't own a hybrid myself; I have gotten a lot of feedback from friends and family who have told me the cost of replacing the batteries is why they don't recommend the hybrids to anyone else.

However I am definitely up for a pure electric solution if the price of batteries die down. Alternatively fuels like hydrogen are nice too.

Definitely would have gotten some base model Mac Pro and have it tweaked out according to Mac Performance Guide including OWC SSD in RAID0. Forget the Apple SSD-waste of money.

Yes, as someone else said, don't spend it all since the tax man will be after you on that extra $30k in 2010 earnings.
