who DIDN'T get a dud aluminum imac??

Have some optimism congratulations. 🙂 Honestly I would have gone for the 24" screen if I knew that the height was so small on the 20" but it's enough for me.
 
Stuck Pixel (UGH!!!)

I had My First Mac experience hobbled by a stuck pixel. I took it back the next day and got a new one. The replacement was perfect, although there was a weird audio click sound on Saturday that did not replicate on Sunday. But overall, I'm as happy as can be🙂
 
Well... I've been on my new iMac for almost 2 hours now and I have none of the problems that have been mentioned. No moisture build up, no gradient, no freezing, etc. I'm very happy with it and I love it. I'm getting ready to order my 4GB of RAM from OWC, then it will be even better.
 
Well it finally happened to me ON my 24" iMac.

I don't know if I should laugh or cry.

The 'peeing' contest on this thread !!! 🙄

In any case I have not been more 'entertained' than I have on my PERFECT 24" iMac.

Oh yeah and now I figured out what a 'fanboy' is !!!!!😀😀😀😀😀😀
 
I purchased my 24" iMac about 3 hours after Steve Jobs introduced them 😀, the first one I got had a stuck pixel, so I boxed it up and brought it back and they gave me a new one no questions asked. However, I suffered from the freezing problem, but we all know that's gone now, so I couldn't be happier with my iMac now!
 
Well I got my 24" iMac last night and I have the gradient problem. 🙁

Looks like the left part of the screen has a bleached spot or something... I definitely won't be able to just let this go, so back it goes.
 
Perfection in Aluminium

I've had my 20" 2.4GHz since, ooh, was it October 26th (anyone remember that day?), and I had one crash, although it might not have been a crash, I just wasn't patient enough to wait to see if it would go away.

Apart from that it is totally perfect! 😀😀😀😀😀

Very happy.
 
strange flickering pixels... dead mouse.

i dunno what i should do about the pixels, because the repairer might allow dust into the display

Well... I said that I had no problems, but I found one last night. My iMac has a backlight bleed towards the bottom left of the screen. I only notice it when the screen goes black, so I don't know if it's bad enough to take back.
 
Well my replacement iMac (24" C2DE) which was handed to me on Black Friday has no stuck pixels and a decent screen.

Now it is hot as hell near the top vents, and gets scary hot when the CPUs are toiling away.

I decided to try to break it in using BOINC and process some seti@home packets. It's gone over two weeks with no problems. It got really hot - so I installed smcfancontrol got it running much cooler. I'm pretty confident it is fully broken-in.

Not one lock-up in two months, no graphics glitches. The only odd thing that happened was when time machine was barfing - and that was caused by my external drive appearing as a USB 1.1 device instead of a 2.0 device. Moving it to a different USB port solved that issue. Other things plugged into the suspect port show up as USB 2.0 devices. 😕

I'm happy and looking into picking up another one for my wife.
 
Whats the name of that video/website you can go to that you basically leave running to try and warm up dead pixels?
 
My imac 24" BTO also has a gradient issue, rang apple care who tried to tell me I was imaging it. In the end they put me through to after sales team, who have arranged for a new machine to be sent to me, then I have up to 5 days with both machines to transfer data etc and then send the old one back. So al is not bad. I spent till 2am last night setting up.
 
I purchased a 20 inch alum iMac in Nov 2007 for my wife. She loves it and it has worked perfectly.

20 inch, 2.4GHz, 500Gb disk, 4Gb memory, Iomega 500 Gb drive for Time Machine.

I purchased a 24 inch alum iMac in Jan 2008 for myself. I have not had one problem. The screen looks great, UT2004 plays VERY fast with ALL the goodies turned on, and there are no gradients or dead pixels on the lovely 24in screen. I love this machine and after being on the dark side (PC) since 1992 because the the corporate world I was involved in, I am finally back to the best side (MAC). in the last 25yrs I have had a Apple IIe, Mac II, Centris 650.

24 inch, 2.4 Gb, 500 Gb disk, 4 Gb memory, Iomega 500 Gb drive for TM.

Both were ordered with 1GB mem from Apple, and then ordered 4GB of memory (4GB for $95.00 from OWC).

4th iMac - CONDENSATION after two months of USE!!!!!!!!!!! (see 2nd link) Shut down and waited for it to disappear, booted it back up and it appeared again! but only in the corner. 😡

So i emailed the person i was already dealing with and she said:

We did get a reply from Apple regarding the condensation. See below.

Please inform to the customer that the condensation disappears on
its own after the computer has been running for approximately one to
two hours, and should not return thereafter. No other action needs to
be taken. Please do not service the computer for this issue.

Im from New Zealand and Renaissance are the distributors for Apple products in NZ hence why its 'a reply from Apple'

Im pretty pissed off with that answer.....😡😡😡😡

YEESH! I checked out your photos and that is indeed nasty. It's strange, I've never encountered that on my own 24" and I live in an extremely humid country.

Is there any extreme source of moisture in the area you're using your Mac that you could pinpoint (and eradicate)? That just doesn't seem right, especially on four different iMacs. The glass can be removed by the end user. It's only held on by magnets. There are a ton of Youtube videos showing various methods to do so including suction cups and duct tape.

I don't recommend it though because it's extremely easy to get dust particles under the glass once it's removed and they end up resembling stuck pixels that flicker.

Incidentally, you were quite lucky to get Apple to replace your first iMac for a single dead pixel. They usually won't do that unless you have a few at least, in prominent locations.
 
My 20" works perfectly. 🙂 The OS was a bit rough around the edges, but worked ok after the first couple of updates. 😛
