I don't. Just got my 5G 30 GB white. Never used one with my 3G, not going to start now. It's going to eventually get scratched and scuffed, so I might as well not spend time worrying about it.

Anyone else with me?

After scratches on my black nano, I am waiting for a case for my white nano before I take it out on the road. The same way I feel about the the 5G's after seeing that they seem to be designed like the nano's.

I don't, but I think I will. I haven't found a case that I am completely satisfied with yet, without paying too much, but here comes the rain
here she comes again
here comes the rain
I love the rain...
sorry sidetracked, and I think I should really get one since my click wheel was on the fritz for a couple of weeks the last time I went running in the rain and my iPod was soaked

but for scratches? who cares, you buy it, you use it, it gets bumped around. It's not like you need to preserve it for evermore

I'm with ya pickle boy

I don't use a case anymore. Tried a skin but after a while it started to look tatty and I got fed up with removing it to charge the battery.

I don't mind if my iPod looks a little battered — it's pretty safe in my bag and it wears its bumps and knocks with pride. Maybe the new iPod I'm planning to buy next year might deserve a case, but only the kind that's easy to take off.

For me the issue is that having owned a number of iPods, I am concerned that the cases of the nano and the 5G are not up to the "use" that I have been able to give my iPods in the past from a cosmetic basis.

I didn't care to bulk up my 3rd gen iPod w/ a case and it's got a nice coating of fine scratches all over. I don't mind (especially since I'm waiting for the iPod faulty battery claim to get it 'refurbished). However, my Nano I am treating like a baby... It has a Martin Fields protector, iKlear chamois, and an Altoids tin.

Tried going naked for a while but i got too worried about it.

I like the new contour sports case. I don't like skins because they get messed up and greasy. The contour is a nice rugged shell. Hopefully we'll see a 5th Gen version soon.

I don't use a case, but then again I have an iPod Mini, and those things are built like tanks. They rarely scratch and you can throw them against the wall and barely dent them.

I wish that Apple would use the Mini's design for their entire iPod lineup.

No case, au natural
It just feels funny if you slip something over it for protection

I have 3 cases: Apple Carrying Case With Belt Clip, iPod Sock and the little bag where Apple Case was packed :D (by the way the last one is my favorite ;)) I use the 1st one only when I'm "hunting" for new photos and when I ride my bike (I also bought Apple Remote, so I can control iPod while it's in case)

others I use when I'm in school/any other place.

All my friends that have iPods don't use cases and their players look like they're 5 years old (though they are just 1-2 months)

My U2 is just 2 beautiful to be scratched :)

Again, instead of leaving the 'lifeproofing' up to us, why don't apple just make the thing with a protective cover, and reflect this in the price?

We're paying for something that is so small & cool that we then have to cover up to be able to use. We're paying for all the time they spend making the thing impractical.

I don't buy ipods until second gen, to ideally avoid all this, but I'm reading a lot of peoples stories on here that make me feel a little sad.

I want the ipods to be the coolest & smallest, but if the price we pay in the stores isn't the final price, they should either let people know that from the start, or get the thing right in the first place.

The thing that strikes me as being crazy, is that something that is fairly like an ipod, they're not giving the cases a real pounding to see if they perform.

All the things that can possibly go wrong with a new, cutting edge electonic product, and it's a silly thing like the case that lets it down? They should have had those cases whizzing round in a tumble dryer to test for scratches!!

Rant over.

I have a 4G 40GB iPod and I don't use a case or skin. It just doesn't feel right and the skins for my iPod just look hideous IMO.

I use an Agent 18 mini shield on my iPod mini. It's great. It doesn't take away from the appearance any at all and seems to protect the iPod really good. I haven't had it off ever since the day I got my iPod.

Nope, never used a case. I've had my mini since Feb and its still immaculate. Not a single scratch anywhere, not even the screen. no grubbiness no fingerprints no dents, scratches, marks imprints scrapings discolouration. The only thing I've ever used is my belt clip.

my 3G got a little scratched but my lecturer saw it and was amazed at how well I've kept it. I just never placed it on a hard surface (usually mouse mats) and always kept it in an empty pocket. its a no brainer really.

I respectfully want to disagree.
Why should everyone have to pay for an "accessory" if you don't want it?

I don't feel that a cover/case/protector is necessary at all. I don't use one, and wouldn't even if it came with the iPod. I think it is an amazing product just as it is.

So it looks 'used'. Mine looks fine. I have never even examined it to see if it has scratches, etc. It plays my music fine, and that's what I bought it for. If others want theirs to be pristine, then so be it. I want to use mine.

No case for me - I've had my 2G for 4 years and it's been chucked in bags and pockets with keys and coins and it's a little scratched, but nothing scary.

The 2G is built like a brick anyway, and a case would just make it too unwieldy. However, I'm looking at a 5G for Christmas, so I may just revise my opinion then.

Sorry, I was only talking about the problems with the nano & new video players, where apparently they aren't as durable.

I have a silver mini and it looks fine with no case, couple of small marks, but I'm not bothered.

But when you need to keep the thing covered up from the day of purchase? Well that just takes the p**s

I have 4G (see my sig), I didint have a case and I dropped it face down on ashfault, now i have a case.
Thankfully the little specs of black rubbed out.

I have a case, but I mostly end up just putting it in my pocket instead. It's a bit scratched, but hey it's still white and it works fine. I do use a case for my PowerBook, but that's something else entirely.
