I really don't mind buying with Paypal so much as the service as a whole. I love the convenience of it, but the service went belly up soon after they were bought out by eBay.

I wonder why eBay is allowed to force Paypal and not be investigated for monopolistic practices. They make you use Paypal - which as a seller, sucks - then double-dip on the fees: Pay once on eBay, pay again on Paypal. If sellers weren't strong armed into using it, it might be different but don't force someone to use a service then charge them for it.

I can never understand how eBay will tell you: "You are entering into a legally binding contract with the seller" but yet if I report a non-paying bidder they write it off and refund my selling fees, leaving me with the bother of relisting an item some scrote didn't pay for. Non-paying bidders get so many chances to mess people about.
As for Paypal I've never had any problems that weren't my own fault, such as the time I sold a car then just in case the buyer reneged on the deal immediately transferred his payment to another account... it cost me £175.
Not bad pay for some clerk watching me push a button - no paperwork, no worries, no labour... but they charge me all the same.

Ok, new scenario for everyone...
It's been over 9 days, and the tracking from UPS that the buyer provided for the return still reports "electronic shipping label created" however does not report any shipping status.
I've messaged the buyer who paypal forced me to allow a return for twice, with no response on his side.
Is there anything I can do? Will Paypal eventually cancel the refund and give me the money back? I was just angry before, but now i'm actually concerned I might never get the phone back.
Thanks

9 times out of 10, paypal will side with the buyer.

I stopped using ebay/paypal a few years back because I had something similar happen to me. Anything with a value >$100.00 I sell privately as a cash transaction when I can. Sometimes it means not making as much as I would have if i had gone the ebay/paypal route, but is better than getting screwed over.

The few times I have used paypal for expensive items, I had the person send me the money using the "gift" option, which means they cant do a chargeback.

Than there is the fact that ebay owns paypal, so not only do they collect fees on your auction, but when you do your paypal transaction they collect fees there also.
