I am trying to muster up the courage to remove the plastic from my phone, but it makes me nervous thinking about it getting scratches. I don't want to put it in a case yet either because that could possibly scuff the sides.

My dad hasn't. I have though, I'm careful with my purchases.

I took the back off but still have the front on while I wait for my screen protector to arrive.

I thought I had OCD! I sure hope that you didn't purchase the black one cause I hear it has problems with it's coating. I haven't seen 1 in real life though. I wanted black but at&t only had white in the size I wanted.

It's hard to press the home button with the front plastic on so i took it off. I put the back plastic back on after I realized there's no need to take it off so now it's filled with bubbles lol. But seeing as how my case won't arrive for another few weeks, I'm probably gonna take the back plastic off also.

Do you plan on buying a screen protector?

Your resale value ought to be tremendous in 20 years when you have the only iPhone5 with original plastic left on.

Don't forget to get a case to protect the plastic. Maybe Zagg plastic protector for the Apple plastic. Or Zagg + bumpers + Apple plastic.

Or put the phone in a bubble wrap bag while you use it. You can kinda see through the bubbles.

Endless possibilities to safe guard the precious.

Just take it off. It's not like your gonna go one or two years with that plastic on there. That's why I take it off right away. I also don't use a case. Just be careful.

Quote from an Apple employee to me this morning:
"AppleCare is the best accessory you can buy. Don't worry about cases or screen covers. The phone is too dynamic."

My temporary case is coming in a few hours, so the back has the plastic till then :p. Damn "scruff-gate" thread has me paranoid.

Shoots I haven't taken out my phone out of the UPS box. Still waiting for my screen protector.

i haven't taken it off my moms phone yet, but mine was off the moment i got it right into the otterbox defender.

Life is short. Everytime I get a new phone/laptop the first thing I do is whip out my keys and make a nice scratch along the back. Not big enough to hurt resell but big enough to where now I won't baby my phone any more.

You should focus on living life not protecting material items.

In my own instance, i left both on last night because I was heading out to a ballgame where a bunch of people I know would want to see it. Took the front off when I got home, about to take the back off today.

I'll be careful until my case arrives on Monday. I'm not as much worried about wear as I am just having extra grip. I buy cases anymore to supply additional grip to my larger hands (ladies, inquire within) rather than preserving its look. In most cases the resale value will be about the same in two years.

And as we all know, guys with large hands........wear large gloves. :p I'm an idiot.

I'm with the OP because the rep at AT&T was taking the plastic off when she was activating my phone and I’m like what are you doing leave everything on the phone. She was like you won’t be able to use the phone with the plastic on. lol it will be on till I get my cases and screen protectors.

I hope everyone treats their children and loved ones with as much care as they do their iphones.

This site is pretty sad sometimes. I feel half the posts are troll posts, like i wish this one was, but theyre not.

My fiancee hasn't. I did yesterday to make a phone call (the speaker was too quiet with the plastic on).

Went to AT&T and made them put on a screen protecter. Not worried about it anymore
