I did too, last week believe it or not. Typing on it right now and am extremely happy. I don't particularly care if it gets OS updates or not.

Mine an 8 core i7 with 128G of RAM (added the RAM myself). Yeah, it's slower, but not nearly by as much as you think. I have other machines that are faster, a Studio Max and a i9 Windows desktop, but I like the Intel iMac better. I need x86 VM's and I absolutely love the display and sound of the iMac, what can I say. I bought this because I wasn't happy with the other machines...
Anandtech, Ars Technica, and other Tech Sites have shown the i9 recently beat the AMD Ryzen overall as the best Desktop Chip, but the Intel Laptops Chips have begun using the Power/ Efficiency Core setups, and when unplugged, the Intel and AMD Chip’s performances totally collapsed.

Well, my Studio Max collapses just as fast as my intel iMac when unplugged. :).

Apple portables do last longer than Intel and AMD for now, though they are catching up... Not really a selling point for me.

And yet they are not even close to where Apple Silicon was 2 years, 3 months, 1 week and 5 days ago.
If one rests on their laurels, one gets passed by. :)

80% of the market are laptops.

Like I said, not a selling point for me, and I own laptops too. I'm almost always plugged in no matter what I'm doing. I can't remember ever running our of battery unless the battery was malfunctioning...

To me, it’s not just the Battery Life, it’s that the M-Series Macs get the same Great performance when unplugged, so you won’t be throttled for lower performance, or have a Dead battery in 3 or 4 hours. When you add performance and battery life, it’s almost unbeatable, except for some Applications and Gaming/High End Graphics work.

Like I said, not a selling point for me. Not when I'm plugged in most of the time, no matter if I'm using Windows or Mac, or whatever.

Maybe you should get around to the fact that the world doesn't revolve around you?
Maybe you should read what I said -- I always used the pronoun me. I'm not trying to convince anyone of anything, only responding to people that direct posted to me. People keep posting back that battery life and running on battery are oh so much better with AS, well like I said that makes absolutely *NO* difference to me.

Just to recount my experience, I owned an M1 MBA preordered on the first day available, 16G RAM, 1TB disk, expensive and the worst computing experience I've ever had -- it ran hot to the touch, thermal throttled so much it was barely useful, and when I did test the battery life, I got no more than 6hours with my normal workload. Used it for 2 months, put in on the shelf and went back to my intel Mac Mini. Not happy with AS and Apple.

Then a few months later I traded the MBA in (big loss in $'s) for a Studio Max, 64G RAM, 2TB SSD, really expensive. Great machine, fast, but got one of the whiners -- not enough to send it back, but still irritating. Have multiple problems with 3rd party monitors, flashing, not great looking display. Work on it for months, never get it any better. Really not happy with AS and Apple.

Finally decided AS is not for me but I still want to run a Mac at home. Buy on sale refurb from apple 27" iMac, LOVE it, it does everything I want to do, gorgeous monitor, great sound. Finally happy again with running a Mac and Apple.

I'm definitely not saying that nobody else shouldn't like AS just because I don't, but on that same token, just because several of you like AS, doesn't mean you can convince me it's worth it. I have the experience with it and found it lacking for *me*. I still own my Studio Max, so if I ever want to do something with AS, I can within seconds!

For work I'm an IT Manager and use a Windows laptop mostly, but have other machines as well, 99% of the time I'm plugged in, battery life just doesn't concern *me*.

Now I may be interested in an AS 27"+ iMac in the future, but until they release said machine, I'll remain happy with my intel iMac, so chill...

And I'm trying to tell you politely, that nobody cares about *you*. Sustained high-performance even when unplugged is a tangible benefit and a selling point of Apple Silicon, even if you choose to ignore it. And an M-series iMac is smaller and lighter and runs cooler and quieter than an Intel iMac. Again, you might not care, but it's still true.

And if you'll look, I never said it wasn't -- just that I didn't care! You really ought to read what I say and not jump to conclusions in your quest to defend all things Apple.
