Seems like the black is popular on MR so far. I've added a poll.

I think what happened is that Apple raised the price of the 12 and cut the price of the pro models, so the 12 became less appealing as a result
Agreed, the price different was so small, it just made sense to upgrade to the 12 pro. Cheers, David Brodosi

For some of us though the iPhone 12 was the maximum cost we wished to pay for an iPhone though. It was just a bit more for the 12 Pro, but the features for that bit extra were not necessarily appealing to everybody, including myself. I suppose that’s why both models exist as not everybody had the same needs from a smartphone.

It only makes sense if you’re actually going to use the pro camera features. It doesn’t make sense to upgrade for the sake of upgrading, but only if you value the specific features that differentiate the models. Had 120hz been a feature I would have upgraded.

Good point. I do usf the camera a lot but not the only thing I considered. Of course I was going from an iPhone 8 to a 12. I miss the home button and still trying to get use to swiping to switch apps. Not fun!

I find the 5.8-inch too small for me, & I’m over the size of the 6.5-inch XS Max I have. Too me, the 6.1-inch XR, 11 and 12 are the perfect size. I’ll be picking up a iPhone 12 (blue) soon. I had the XR when it came out, but couldn’t stand the screen after a while. I’m glad to see the iPhone 12 screen is higher resolution now, so it’s perfect for me.

128GB white iPhone 12 here! Coming from an non-pro 11 it feels like a good upgrade (OLED, resolution)!
The 12 Pro just not felt that good in my hands, I don‘t like the super shiny stainless steel 🙄

The 12 is the best selling model IRL afaik; it just seems underrepresented on macrumours. I think most people here lean towards the pro models since its an enthusiast forum. Then there's the mini crowd also who are quite outspoken. Us 12 bros are the silent majority.
Hey now I’m no bro lol I’m a chica haha
But yes I have the iPhone 12 and it’s is amazing

I didn’t even realize I bought the 128 gb version

Black 12, 256gb. I wouldn’t have minded paying more for the Pro but really liked the lighter weight of the 12 and can live without the extra camera. I upgraded from a Xs so that was my point of reference as far as weight. I was going to keep the Xs for another year but I saw the resale value for it was plummeting so figured I may as well upgrade. No regrets.

5.8 was too small for me also; I always liked the 6.1 inch size and find it a good middle ground. The 12 really feels like the 11 design perfected. Same display size with a smaller lighter footprint, higher resolution oled display, slim bezels and the flat sides which I personally prefer. I liked the size of my 11 but the 12 feels much nicer. The only thing missing is a reduced or removed notch.

Honestly it shocks me that the 12 is the same size of my xr yet it is so more compact as a woman who wears tight skinny jeans and dresses and skirts yet i don’t feel like I’m missing out on screen real estate. This is also the first time I had a current iPhone before as I’m usually a gen behind

Mint green 12 with 128gb. Really impressed. Moving from a Huawei P30 (had an iPhone 7 Plus before that) so I am slightly missing the zoom camera, but like others have said, I draw a line at spending £1,000 on a phone. I did think about getting an iPhone 11 Pro for the extra camera but I'd rather have the latest device for the maximum lifespan and resale value in two or three years.

The cameras are excellent (although lockdown and grey weather here means I've not had the chance to really put it through its paces since getting it last week) and the form factor is perfect for me.

No, it’s not. The Pro Max is with the Pro right behind it. In fact, the iPhone 12 is in the same boat with the Mini. Yang forecasts 11 million less Mini sales than originally expected and 9 million less iPhone 12 sales.

”The analyst reportedly cut the production expectations of the iPhone 12 mini by as much as 11 million units. The iPhone 12 production expectations have also been reduced by nine million, while the iPhone 12 Pro and the iPhone 11 production is speculated to grow by two million and eight million units, respectively.”
You're wrong and with the time you will be progressively even more wrong.
Remember the pro target mainly enthusiats (such as lot of people here on MR) and therefore there is a strong overrepresentation of this type of client segment at launch and first weeks post launch.
And the opposite is true, the more mainstream Joe who want the last iPhone without paying the extra for the "pro" stuff tend to buy it at launch but also at Xmas, 6 months, 9 months even 11 months post launch while an enthusiast would very rarely buy a pro model 1 month before a new gen.

In short : expect Pro 12 sales to decline vs regular 12 with time. We had exactly the same thing with XR having huges sales after 6-12 months of launch date vs XS / XS Max, and exact same with 11 vs 11 Pro / 11 PM etc etc

MR is a very specific segment of customer and definitely not representative of the majority + launch sales is and always be biased in favor of enthusiats' models (mainly Pro ones)
