I couldn't wait any longer. My TiBook wasn't working and there has been nothing but speculation about new Macbook Pro, so I just walked in an apple store, purchased a Macbook Pro and walked out.

About five minutes. I didn't even let the sales guy finish his pitch for Apple Care.

Thread: Who gives a **** about Merom?
Better performance with Vista/Leopard? Potential longevity of Merom? Don't have to shell out $1700 for another laptop within a year? Someone who isn't rich and doesn't want to spend $$$ every year?

Since I was the OP, let me clarify what I wanted to talk about. I not saying that Merom shouldn't be in the next upgrade of the MBP; it should be a given. I was just perplexed why so many people are waiting on pins and needles for it to be included, so much so that they don't even care about the other things I mentioned in the OP.

Ok..what don't you understand about the fuss over Merom? I just told you, many people think Merom is a strong investment in this time frame. And yes, we all should assume Apple is working to resolve these issues (and it better resolve by next update  ). Alas, you mind as well get a MacBook yourself..

I care about Merom because I want my portable to be able to encode this file 20% faster with 20% less Salad...er... power consumption!

That way I can get up my salad recipe site up properly!

Why do you say that? 64bit addressing does allow for more than 4GB of RAM to be allocated, it's not as if you need more than that to make use of the increased precision. Double-precision floating-point maths can be used if you had 512MB just as easily as if you had 6GB of memory.

All Intel processors from the early days of the PC era used 80-bit floating point. The C2D does not change this. What it does add it longer address pointers and a larger address space.

Well the main Reason i care about the C2D is because of the 64 Bit!

Since apple is switching over all of its computers to 64 bit, then that means in a few years they will no longer support 32 bit. Something tells me that the C2D computer will work with the latest version of mac OS for many years after the CD!

You will most likely have a new computer by the time 32-bit is no longer supported. Actually, I don't even know what that means. Any 32-bit Application will run on a 64-bit chip.

I don't see the problem. it's just a CPU upgrade. I hope this trend continues, incremental CPU upgrades, nothing major for the most part just nice little increases. Makes me a happy bunny.

Just a guess. Those who dislike the thread have been on M**** overdose since the 343rd thread. Yours is number 344. Lettuce all just move on already.
