based on the odds, what are the chances i'll get a lemon?

It depends. If like some, you consider an iPhone with a speck of dust under the screen or a tiny scratch on the chrome to be a lemon, then your chance of getting a lemon is pretty good. If you'll be happy with a fully functional device, with all buttons working, then its VERY unlikely that you'll get a 'lemon'.

oh good, dust wouldn't bother me much, i just hope i dont get any dead pixels... THAT would be annoying...

I got a lemon 16gb black. Mine wouldn't see ANY wifi networks at all. Exchanged it on Saturday for a working one.

I have just bought an 8GB off Ebay...what can i do if its a lemon..don't 02 Apple expect people will sell on or give their upgrade to a family member?

I just picked up my 16GB white today and it's been extremely nice.

I did notice one thing, however, as I was walking and watching my GPS - there seems to be a border around the screen of sort of inactivated LCD looking material that is between where the image shows up and the black face of the phone. It is more noticeable than I remember my original iPhone having. Plus, there are a couple more "pixels" worth on the left side than on the right. It seems that my screen displays 480x320 or whatever the full resolution is, so I'm not too worried. I was wondering - does anyone else have this going on?

Well, I just saw the image from the iPhone 3G gallery at apple.com

http://www.apple.com/iphone/gallery/#image3

and the small border is apparent there, although there's is perfectly aligned, of course. I'm definitely going to be able to live with it I just wanted to make sure it wasn't supposed to be there at all.

Mine was perfect...but has started to get some issues...still wouldnt call it a lemon though. I have 2 specs of dust next to the home button on the bottom black portion, but it doesnt affect the display so Im not worried about it...as well as a slight light leak near the volume buttons that I just noticed.

Im not sure if any are going to be 100% great, especially after many months of use. Neither of these issues are big deals, I love my phone and my battery is awesome now, so Im perfectly satisfied with my phone....and its little quirks. ;)

Lemon with keys that froze - replaced with no problem

I was in love for four days with my first-ever iPhone. (Long-time Mac user, but hadn't invested in phone.) Suddenly bottom row of keys froze -- couldn't use phone, get email or internet, but all the other apps worked. Then icons were all over the place (not just vibrating). Took it to Mac Genius and they reset. Within 10 minutes it froze again. Took it back and they replaced the SIM. Everything is perfect now -- except sending emails. But that is another discussion thread.

I have a perfectly fine working 16GB white. I've had it for a few days without any problems with Wi-Fi/internet or call quality.

fantastic product as a gadget... lots of features, all work well.

as a phone / internet device, complete *******... probably will end up returning it.

Can't find anything wrong w/ my 16 black. Launch day, too.

I know, it's weird - because I am usually really picky with this kinda stuff - can't find anything wrong with it! Sorry! lol

16 gig black.
Overall, pretty decent. Some occasional delay, but no more than 3 seconds or so... The only major issue I've had is an occasional random restart. It goes back to the black screen with the silver apple in the middle. From there, I have to wait roughly 30 seconds for it to reboot. Anyone know why this happens?
