iPad Pro Who has both 11” and 12.9 iPad Pro’s?d

Does anyone own both 2018 iPad Pro’s? I only ask as I currently have the 2018 12’9” Pro and the 2017 10.5” Pro but am seriously considering buying the 11”.

I take the 10.5” into the office to consume news mainly and some email. The 12.9 stays at home and I use whilst sitting in front of the TV (I am writing this on the 12.9 now).

I know it’s a bit of an extravagance but was just wondering if anyone else has both 2018 Pro’s? And, how you justify and use both?

I actually finally got the 12.9 about two weeks ago. I've had the 11 since November and I went back and forth initially because I could not decide. Finally I keep the 11 because of its portability, but I knew I would end up getting both.

the 11 is super light and portable, I walk around the house with it or take it with me when I travel. I use the 11 as a reader as well, the size makes it feel like a nice size book and the kindle app is great on it. The 12 is ideal for handwritten notes and drawing, its the first time i've had the pencil and its been amazing switching to that for helping the kids out with homework. The 12's screen is basically the size of a normal sheet of paper, so i've been using that for homework help and then sending the notes of what we work through to their phones for them to reference later.

so, i use the 11 through the day while moving around, to read books and in bed. The 12 as a netflix/hulu device, handwritten notes, homework help and doodles and more of a desk machine for when i've banking or something.

I have both and upgraded both from the previous generation.

In terms of the 10.5 about the only appreciable difference is Face ID and the thinner bezels which makes the experience of switching between both devices a little more consistent. Performance-wise, I don’t notice practically any difference compared to the 10.5, and the extra .5 in screen real estate is essentially unnoticeable - especially for the things you use the 10.5 for currently. The same can be said, more or less, for the 12.5 but because it’s a larger device, the smaller bezels do reduce the overall footprint which is welcome. The camera is improved but I hardly use it. I don’t use the Apple Pencil. So overall, the upgrade from the previous generation is a luxury, money-to-burn upgrade for the most part.

In any event I have both because I find the larger iPad a much better experience (there is no substitute for a larger screen for almost everything the iPad does) and its my primary iPad for use at home. The smaller iPad is the go to device for mobile use (and when the 12.5 is charging) So far the most significant benefit of the 2018 iPads as far as I’m concerned is Face ID which works amazingly well and makes the formally home button/Touch ID combo seem suddenly old and cumbersome. The only quibble I have with Face ID is the way it’s implemented with Apple Pay where you have to “double click” the on/off button to confirm a purchase. I can see why they need some sort of method for confirmation to prevent accidental or unwanted purchases but I think a separate dialog box would have done the trick.

Depends on which size you use the most. I mainly use my 2018 12.9, but when I'm out and about I carry the 10.5. I tried the 11, but difference in experience wasn't enough to justify the added replacement cost.

I’ve ended up with both, but the 12.9” is now going to replace a MacBook Air which is going up for sale today. For me, the 12.9” makes sense as a laptop replacement - if I’m using this for hours at a desk, the larger screen is a must. Split view & multi-tasking is nice on the bigger screen and the folio keyboard is nice and big too.

The 11” is a much better machine for me for the stuff a tablet is traditionally good at - content consumption on the go, on the sofa, reading at night in bed etc. The 12.9 just isn’t comfortable to do this with for me is also very bright at night in the dark!

The 11” does make a very good ultra-portable with the keyboard case, so if I’m running to an office, I can put that in my rucksack and don’t really notice it.

If you want and need a 12.9, that’s really the only one to go for because presumably you know you need the big screen. Otherwise, the 11” is a brilliant all-rounder.

Picked up my 11” Pro this afternoon and wow, I love it. It seems to me to be the perfect size for taking out and about. I thought that if Apple brought out a new mini iPad I’d of bought that but this really seems to hit the sweet spot for me.

I also picked up the Apple Smart Keyboard and the Apple Smart Cover. I’ve not even opened the Smart Cover as I bought one earlier off Amazon that is equally as good. From ESR, has the magnets like the Apple one and a fraction of the price.

I came close to getting the 12.9” along with my 11”. If i was sitting at a desk most of the time, or even half the time I would have maybe bought the 12.9” to replace my imac. But i travel 90% of the time. Always on the go. So the 11” is my main device. Even my imac is collecting dust at home. I just always grab the 11” iPP. I was hoping the ipad mini would get apple pencil 2 support and the pro design. I still might get one regardless when Apple updates it next month. Sometimes i just wanna go out and about without a backpack. The mini fits perfectly in my cargo pants pocket. I don’t have an iphone. But i am grandfathered in on the unlimited AT&T ipad data plan which works for me. Who calls anymore? Everything is texting & facetime these days. So I think an 11” and ipad mini would be a perfect combo for someone who travels a lot like me. 11” is a great mobile main device for editing video & drawing on. But for those times i wanna go ultra light, the mini will be perfect.

In addition, I would also love for the rumored iPod touch update to get a high end camera. I currently use the ipod touch 6th gen as my travel camera. Since most people stream music these days, i think Apple shifting the emphasis of the ipod touch from music to photography makes sense. But who knows. Seems like they’ll market it as an entry gaming device for kids to the Apple ecosystem. Although most kids i know get cheaper handme down iphones from their parents. So i don’t know exactly how Apple will market it. Although a cellular capable ipod touch with a kick ass camera would be perfect for someone like me.

I’ve got the 2018 iPad and 2018 iPad Pro 12.9 It’s not 2 iPad Pro’s like you specified but I definitely have use for two iPad’s. When I leave my house, I take my iPad with me; otherwise it’s the Pro most of the time. As to why I don’t take the Pro out, it’s because of $ cost replacement.

I’ve got the 12.9” 2018 with the Brydge keyboard on pre-order and 10.5” 2017 with Apple’s Smart Keyboard cover. I’d love to get the 11” 2018, but I don’t feel like I can justify it. Instead, I think that I might alternate my upgrades. So the next iPad that I think I will upgrade will be the 10.5” to the 11” 2nd gen and continue that way. But I am also weighing up the option of just sticking with the 12.9” line for the most part, in which case, I might upgrade the smaller Pro less frequently.

If I could afford both, I’d have both definitely! But, I only have the 11” cellular iPad Pro model.

Believe it or not, my 11” iPad Pro is a laptop replacement for me. I also have a powerful HEDT desktop build. But, it doesn’t get used much other than for 4K gaming. Which, I’ve been gaming everyday on my iPad mostly. So, it sees a lot of use for sure.

I think it is a great device.

I was honestly thinking about getting both. I have the 11'' and it's perfect for portability But every time I see the 12.9'', I am getting this urge to buy it.

That said, I'm self-employed so could write it off as expenses and get back 19% taxes as well. But it seems completely overkill as I have a 15'' MBT and a 13'' Surface Laptop 2 that's basically collecting dust anyway.

I kind of feel like the websurfing and reading experience is way better on the 12.9'' inch than on the 11''. Shouldn't make that big of a difference to me, but it certainly does.

I’m replying to the concept of having both, rather than the actual models, as I don’t have either.

I have a first gen 12.9, wifi, and an LTE 10.5, I use them both, I work almost completely on iPads, hardly use my Macbook Pro and only use my phone for calls.

I love the size of the 12.9, perfect for almost everything I do - the usual consumption, plus creative work ... writing, music, drawing. I use the 10.5 less, mostly on the go, but also when I need a lighter iPad, and also in tandem with the 12.9 when writing.

Like someone else said, I will stagger my upgrades ... so the 12.9 will be next. I love the 10.5 and can’t see any reason to upgrade that, the headphone jack is crucial for doing music, and I’m not yet interested in Face ID.

I have both. I got the 11” cellular from Verizon on Black Friday when they were having $250 off plus I traded in an iPhone for some credit, so I got the keyboard too. I scored a great deal on a 12.9 cellular on Swappa that was brand new for $895 and I was still able to add AppleCare+. I had a 2015 12.9 I sold. I also bought the Apple keyboard for that one and I have a pencil, which I like a lot more than the 1st gen.

I use the 11” for note taking for work and some light browsing. The 12.9 is quickly becoming a replacement for my 2015 MacBook. I’m keeping that for things I absolutely need a computer for, like taxes or form creation where a mouse is necessary, but it’s rare I pull it out. I am also self employed so the write offs help. I do have a Surface Book that I have to use for Quickbooks for my main client because it’s too hard to cross between Mac and PC with that program.

Love having both and use them both daily. I also alternate between the two of them to take with me to the gym to watch videos.

I have the 12.9 iPP and an additional 10“ Surface Go with keyboard/trackpad. The iPad is hard to beat as a tablet and the Surface adds the things that Apple avoid to give us like a trackpad/mouse support and access to pro apps. The Surface Go cost about half the money of the 11“ iPP and is in the same ballpark regarding size and mobility....

I just read through this thread again, and I’d keep your 10.5” as the travel iPad. Unless you are using Adobe rush and editing videos a lot , then I’d upgrade to a 11”. If not, your 10.5” iPad is perfect as a secondary iPad for your 12.9” iPad Pro.

I’ve had my 1TB 11” silver cellular iPad for 2 weeks now, and I’ve owned a 11” iPad Pro since late January 2019. I love this thing! I really use to question wanting the 12.9” a lot, but I’ve read so much about how people do leave them on a desk very frequently. I just don’t think any bigger is required for me. And I am 100% happy with the 11” iPad Pro. I do not think twice about needing or wanting a bigger iPad.

I think the 11” and 12.9” are so close in there use cases, you’d probably use the 11” more because it does everything the 12.9” does while being smaller.

If you want (2) premium iPads, is probably the question you should ask yourself?

Or buy a Mini 5 iPad.

But, I think owning a 11” and a 12.9” may be a little silly. It seems more or so like carrying (2) full size pistols lol.

From a expense standpoint, I would never own both.

So I just bought the 12.9 and have had the 11 for 1 month. It’s interesting that you mentioned the 12.9 is good for handwritten notes. That’s exactly what I bought the 12.9 for, but I find that my palm resting on screen pushes the screen down which concerns me. I’m curious - is it just me or do you notice this too?

FWIW - this is my second 12.9. The first one came very visibility bent out of the box and the pencil connector didn’t work (probably because of how bent it was). I don’t want to keep returning and buying because it’s a hassle and I wonder if the glass concaving is limited to the product I bought or affects all 12.9s equally.
