and how much you get for it?

im hoping to get £295 on mine which is currently listed on ebay. would make the upgrade around £150

why don't you just check ebay? 3G 16gb are sold at around $400-$1,000, with higher value going to unlocked phones or ones that are brand new...

Last year, I sold my unlocked iPhone to prepare for the iPhone 3G. This year, I've been convinced by my brother to give him my iPhone 3G for use with T-Mobile (obviously on EDGE only). So as an exchange, I get his old blackberry, an iPod Touch, and an old iPod to sell on eBay. Surely it isn't worth as much as just selling my 3G, but at least it benefits him :D

iPhone White 16gb - $465, got about $420 after fees
iPhone White 16gb - $440, got about $400 after fees
iPhone Black 8gb - $367, got about $350 after fees

Not bad, pretty much got new ones for almost free.

I just sold my 3G 16 Gb on craigslist. I listed it for 475 and I got 450 for it, cash. I got it the day it came out but kept it in pretty good condition. It took less than 4 hours to get a call. I got another call while the buyer was on his way and I had to tell them it was already sold. Mind you, I paid 299 for this the day it came out. Now I just take that money to Apple on the 19th and I have essentially upgraded to 3GS for free.

I put my sim card into my old razer and I have a phone. Now I just have to go through iphone withdrawal for 8 days :(

Edit: SOLD 6/11/09 Craigslist, 450, cash, expenses $0

i want to know why you guys are selling your 3G for something that is almost the exact same, but will cost more. I can see if you need more storage, and maybe a better camera, but that is about all that i can see that would be worth upgrading for.

Last July i paid full price for my 3G ($500). I am not eligible for an upgrade until december. I will most likely just wait until 6/10 to upgrade. Most of the new features that come on the 3GMKII are available on cydia.

I know it has video capabilities, but i've had that ability on my 3G since last september (and has sound). just interested in reasonings.

I'm debating whether I should sell or not. My friend went the eBay route, but unfortunately the huge flux of iPhones on eBay is bringing the price down slightly. I am trying my luck on craigslist.

Come on at&t/apple, don't screw over your loyal users!

When you sell your 3G, what do you do to clean it up?

Do you remove the SIM card?

Except for the double the speed (faster processor, double the L1 cache, added an L2 cache), double the ram, far better video camera (officially supported so there should be some cool video apps in the store), better camera, better battery life, future proofing on the new ATT towers, and a host of other things mentioned by apple.

The only thing that is "almost the same" is the way it looks. This is like ugrading a computer. Sure it runs the same operating system as its younger sibling but it's an entirely new computer.

It sounds like you may not have seen this video:

I've had mine listed on craigslist for a few days now with no bites (unless you count those people from Nigeria.) I may just keep the darn thing.

Sold mine monday night. White 16gb 3g.
Put it on craigslist got like 5 text messages and 10 phone calls within the hour.
Sold it for 400$ cash later on that night.
Had lots of offers of 350 and 3 or 4 400$ ones.
I wish I would have tried for more. But since I only planned on getting the 16gb 3gs I was pretty happy to make 200$.
I preordered my black 3gs tonight.

Sold mine on eBay for $570 and ended up w/ ~ $475 after fees, shipping, etc. It sold on Saturday before WWDC on Monday. Bought it at launch but had Body Guardz and a screen protector on it from the first moment it was opened.

I put my very well taken care of Black 16gb 3G phone on Craigslist as of 2:30 this afternoon, after 3 phone calls and 5 emails, its sold for my asking price of $400, I did not think it would have sold this fast but I went to my local AT&T store and pre-ordered my 32gb black 3GS on my family plan for $299 and get to pocket $100, no brainer folks!

Make sure you put your phone number on the craigslist post. If you got nigerian spammers contacting you it's becuase you are using email. I sell things via craigslist quite a bit and have found that most buyers don't bother using email there. Also make sure you put up good pictures.

If you show me your ad I can maybe polish it up for you.

The new 3G S will be substantially faster than the 3G and video recording will be much better (30fps) than the crappy (though good for jailbroken apps) video recording apps for jailbroken iPhones.
