Thank you for the link. I've been with AT&T and the network sucks, only stayed because I still have unlimited data. I work in San Diego, CA 92101 and I have the iPhone 4 and AT&T's 3G is worst and it seems even at LTE, Verizon is top in my area and so I've decided to switch to Verizon and lose my unlimited data with AT&T. Can anybody confirm though if we can talk and surf on Verizon's LTE?

It's up to the device. Older LTE devices couldn't, the newer ones can. It's unknown whether or not the new iPhone will be able to, but it's a reasonable assumption to make.

This isn't even a contest. Verizon LTE blows AT&T LTE out of the water. Just compare the coverage maps on the websites; it's not even close.

I now even get Verizon LTE in my tiny town of 450 people, 2 hours from the closest major city. Verizon's LTE coverage is quickly approaching their 3G map.

I highly doubt you will find a place in the USA where you can get AT&T LTE but not Verizon LTE.

In many areas. Not here in CT. AT&T blows Verizon out of the water, as they cover several areas that Verizon doesn't, and they have a much better fallback than Verizon does.

LTE = Yes
3G and below = No

Not correct. I swear this is all I ever comment about anymore. Four phones support SVDO, which allows voice and data simultaneously, with data being on EV/DO (3G).

HTC Thunderbolt
HTC Rezound
HTC Incredible 4G
Samsung Galaxy S3

No idea what other phones will have SVDO, but I've used it on all four of the above, and it works just fine. When, WHEN will people at MacRumors acknowledge this?

Depends on where you live and will use the iPhone the most.

This seems to be a very hard concept for people to understand, like the clueless who post things like, "Verizon hands down." or "AT&T blows Verizon out of the water, as they cover several areas that Verizon doesn't".

True, but is one any more established than the other? ATT advertises "fastest 4G network". Is this true?

T-Mobile, Sprint, AT&T & Verizon ALL say they have the fastest and best 4G LTE around. I live in Fort Myers, FL and AT&T 4G sucks here. Verizon is better in my area. Its like everyone else is saying, it all depends on your area.

ATT LTE has not officially launched in Fort Meyers but it will within two months! I live in Miami 3 days a week, and Sarasota 4 days a week.

I am out of contract on ATT so I purchased a Galaxy S3 on Verizon and an out of contract Galaxy S3 on ATT (both of which I plan to return on Sept 21st)...

I want to say that from Miami to Sarasota (alligator alley to i75N at naples), ATT had LTE in about 90% of the places where Verizon did... except for Ft Meyers (sorry, lol. but as i said, its coming soon).

ATT LTE was CONSTANTLY faster than Verizon LTE and I ran over 100 speed tests, app downloads, webpage loading, etc... ATT was faster in about 90% of the tests I ran... but as many others have said... in the areas where neither company had LTE, ATTs HSPA+ blew Verizon 3G out of the water...

In Miami, ATT's LTE footprint is also bigger...

So I decided to stick with ATT. I honestly went into this test feeling that Verizon was going to completely dominate in every way. I was actually looking forward to the change because I have had ATT for years. But in my particular areas of operation, ATT wins...

the moral of the story: as mentioned many times on this thread, it really depends on your area.. i like to do my due diligence before getting into a 2 year contract for a service that costs me over 2 grand a year... so i tested both networks and found a clear winner.. but if i was living in jacksonville, gainesville, melbourne, etc... I would not be able to get ATT LTE at all, but Verizon's LTE would be strong in those areas....

Note #1: Many people have said that ATT speeds just seem faster because they have a newer network and much fewer LTE customers... if this is true, they are about to get BOMBARDED by new LTE customers on September 21st and their speeds may take a HUGE hit... I am crossing my fingers that this does not happen... but if it does, itll also probably happen to Verizon as well... and both companies will take a hit... and we may no longer see the crazy 40 mbps speeds... but once you are in the area of 10 mbps, it feels like you are on your home wifi... so it should be ok for everybody =)

Note #2: One complaint I have with ATT worth mentioning is the handoff between their LTE and HSPA+ ... it seems like you lose all network connectivity for a split second when the handoff occurs... this is not a problem at all unless you are sitting in a restaurant that sits right at the border between LTE and HSPA+ areas and the handoff is happening over and over (happened to me this weekend, lol...) .. basically what happens is the webpage you are trying to load at the precise moment the handoff occurs will take extra long to load, or will time out and then you just have to refresh... not a big deal at all.. just worth mentioning....

Note #3: Verizon completely blankets I4 from Tampa to Orlando (other two places I travel regularly) while ATT just covers those two cities, but not the I4 connection between them... in Orlando and Tampa, ATT was much faster on my speed tests but the handoff issue from above was happening more regularly than it did in Sarasota... I probably saw it go from HSPA+ to LTE 5-7 times in one day, while my brothers Verizon Driod Maxx held its LTE indicator steady the whole time... but all my speed tests were faster than his... so in the end its probably a wash.. you can't go wrong with either company in those two cities...

Sorry for the long a$$ post, guys... but when I was shopping around for which iPad3 to get based on LTE network... I searched and searched for a post as detailed as mine above.. so I took the time to write this one in case it helps anybody living in the same area as myself...

Verizon is the only carrier that can do simultaneous with LTE. They use two radios (except for the iPhone 5). AT&T can do simultaneous voice and data, but only over HSPA+, and the data is heavily throttled.

I those situations throttled is not that big of a deal. If I am on a conference call and I need to look up something real quick speed isn't that important.

This is a deal breaker for me for Verizon.

Fair enough. But the SGS III and DROID RAZR MAXX HD have simultaneous voice and LTE data.
