Is anyone here editing HEVC (also known as h.265) on the new iMac? I know that the 580X will handle 4K h.264 just fine. But I'd like to start using h.265 from my Mavic 2 Pro (plus LUTS, etc.). I've watched Max Yuryev's videos on the Vega's handling of it, and he definitely recommends the Vega for HEVC. I was curious is anyone has tried editing it with the 580X and if it just gets by, struggles, or does decently. Thanks!

Here are results for the 2019 5K iMac with i9 processor & Vega 48 graphics. Max released the video today.

IMHO you don't need a top-performer GPU to do 4K edits. At least certainly not in FCPX, because a) it transcodes your import to ProRes and b) you can use optimized media for faster timeline/cutting.
It is the HEVC encode (export), that will take most of your time and where hardware acceleration gives huge advantage. But none of it comes from the GPU.
PS Resolve is another story, I think.
