Just curious about the statistics for iPad. THIS IS NOT FOR IPHONE!!

Had it on my iPhone for years. Dropped it a few weeks ago since unlimited really isn't "unlimited". Signed up for the 5gb tethering data plan. Received a $130 dollar credit for doing so.

Never gone over 500mb on my iPhone since I've had it - from the 3G.

NO WAY 70% has the unlimited plan! More like 70% wish they did!

How'd you manage that?

I have never skipped my $30/month iPad plan since June 5, 2010... so No I am not jealous. I'm curious about the statistics (wondering how many out there can screw it up like they did with the iPhone Unlimited Data and jailbreaking).

Here is my question for everyone here.

My Dad has an original AT&T iPad and has said he doesn't really use the 3G and wouldn't mind giving it (the sim) to me.

Can anyone walk me through the process of how I'd transfer the unlimited plan from his iPad to my new iPad?

Will the plan work for 4G Data as well? And will I be able to change the credit information without the plan 'lapsing'.

Finally, will I still be able to turn it on and off when I need it - or do I constantly have to pay each month? That's the only part that confuses me with people talking about not letting the Unlimited plan 'lapse'.

haha that's what they said with the original iphone unlimited plans. in time, you will see. the ipad is a media consumption device, which means more data usage, which means possible clogging the network, which means the need to throttle heavy users. nothing will change that

Not so sure. Too few of us for them to worry about.

don't take my word for it. the comments in the link you provided speak for themselves. i don't think it's hard to assume that an ipad will use more data than an iphone. if att already thinks >3GB is too much for the network, well......

I have a strange feeling that AT&T is going to make tethering mandatory for those who opt to get the 4G iPads, which will spell the end of the unlimited data plan. Of course, those studious and cautious few who are grandfathered in can just opt to keep 3G without making the switch.

I don't. I had it for about 6 months, then I realized that I barely ever used the data. For the most part, I was almost always on Wifi. I decided to just cancel it, and order it during stretches where I knew I would use 3G. I've signed up for it twice in the last 18 months.

AT&T doesn't have LTE in my area, and I doubt they will anytime soon. Verizon already does. I'm glad I cancelled it, since I saved well over $500, as well as making the decision to go with the Verizon model much easier. Now I just wish Verizon would get their heads out of their ass and offer 3GB for $30 like AT&T. One can hope, right?

I used to have it... But I cancelled it because I didn't use it that much. It was nice to have it though.

Asked them to drop the price a bit but they could not adjust it. So I asked what about $10 off a month for a year as a credit instead? They did that and all at once. Pretty nice about it actually.

I just bought an iPad 3 and I transferred my grandfathered unlimited data plan to 4G LTE unlimited. :)

I'm also jailbroken so I can use the iPad as a 4G LTE hotspot. Woohoo!!!

I had it for about three months, but like others I was mostly around home wifi most of the time so was paying $30 for nothing most months. I definitely miss it now but I still wouldn't want to have to pay every month to maintain it. Just wish it was still available month to month.

I've had the unlimited with ATT since I first bought the original iPad in May of 2010. Then just last month (May) I bought the new iPad at the apple store and they transferred my ATT unlimited over to the new iPad. Worked out very well. 

I have an unlimited plan, but I bought a new VZ ipad for the LTE. Now I regret it and want to trade for an ATT. White 64 VZ, like new if anyone wants a trade or wants to purchase it so I can get ATT:).

5GB, $37...have not used a full 5 in any month so far. Would I prefer unlimited, yes....

What does "grandfathered" mean? Is it just a vanity term, or does it actually imply some change?
