I just got my Apple Watch 3 in May 2018 so it’s only been 4 months.
I got it for $400 au with Apple care included.
If I get Apple Watch 4 it would be like $780 with Apple care. Too much for upgrade, although I can probably sell mine for $400

I think if I keep it for two years and replace it for $99 I can keep it for total 4 years.
By that time Apple Watch 7 or 8 might be out.
Apple Watch 3 is fast enough for me. I don’t use sim either.
Don’t really want big screen. So I might keep it as I am happy.
If I upgrade will probably be because I found a nice and cheap Apple Watch 4/5/6/7
Like my iPhone 6s not xs, I keep it because it’s all I need. Works fine.

Apple Watch 3 GPS with WatchOS 5 now has wifi! And steps per minute!
The two most wanted feature I wanted in Apple watch 4. Now it’s there with just an update. Very happy.

I would have, had my fiancee not wanted an Apple Watch again (and since she didn't care, she took the Series 3... I went with the S04). In my day-to-day, there's almost no difference in speed. Yes, the S04 screen is better - much better - but it's the sort of thing you don't need unless they're side-to-side.

I like the shape of the S03 better - the S04, to me, looks a bit too much like the Fitbit Versa (and other Chinese knockoffs thereof).

Absent this situation, I'd keep the S03 and (unless you have cash to spend). Try and avoid the hype as best you can on these forums - the Series 3 is more than sufficient, is still an immensely fast device, and can last several years more.

Clarification -- WatchOS5 brings the ability to manually connect to a wifi network via the watch.

The S3 definitely could connect to wifi, it just couldn't/wouldn't connect to something it hadn't learned from your phone.

Feel bad for people who recently got a series 3
Yeah, though it's not like it was any secret that Apple would likely release a new watch and phone in September...

I’m keeping my S3 at least another year, I think. I switched from S0 to S3 last year but kept my 6s for another year. I’ve now upgraded my phone to an XS and may upgrade my laptop next year (it’s a 2012 11” MBA). I think 1 iDevice a year is plenty really.

What I like about the S4 is that it’s a bit thinner but that alone isn’t enough.

My watch is ust under a year old so I’m keeping my 3, I’ve been tempted a few times into buying a 4 but so far resisted. I know that when I do cave in that my old phone will be my nighttime sleep monitor.

Until they bring out a ceramic Series 4, I’m holding...

I was keeping my Series 3 SS for another year, but since Verizon goofed and sent my pre-order Series 4 GSS after I cancelled the order, I decided to exchange the one I bought at the Apple store for a Series 4 SS ML. My logic being that Apple customer service is easier to deal with than Verizon.

I traded in the Series 3 to put towards the Series 4 SS.

SN: Yikes to the value drop on these things, but thankfully I’m not in it for that.

Same here. I like the more square look of my Series 3. But the Series 4 is still very tempting.

Have you actually seen the 4 in person? The 4 looks a hell of a lot better. I almost feel like the 0-3 were beta versions with compromises and such and the 4 is the first real apple watch.

I got my Series 3 back in June. I'm fine with it. Once the Apple Stores get some regular stock, I might trade it in for a Series 4, though.

Yeah, I’ve seen it and it’s calling my name. As soon as the 44mm stainless steel models start showing up, I’m gonna trade in my Series 3.
