my local apple store doesnt allow anyone to "camp out". they let you form a line 2 hours prior to open.

I want to see some pictures of these lines!! They have nothing else to do...lets meet the die hard fans who still go the old fashion route!

I couldn't imagine. Especially in bigger, less safe cities. I'll be there at 6:30 AM, although ideally 5 if I had a car.

Right. Your standing in a line that you don't really want to stand in (just to spite others) will surely teach them a lesson.

There are lot of things I could do while in that line ... Make friends and see & experience that culture - to see for real, how Apple employees treat their over-eager customers ... Read stuffs, time will fly, it will be like just waiting for your flights in the airport or special gigs in stadiums - it's not like I will camp overnight or for several days.

It's not that bad or horrible thing to do like some people are making it out to be. But if you do that for several days, there's something wrong about it, but maybe _________ (fill in the blank).

The pissing off Samsung and iHaters is a joke. :D

I'm camping out. Just arrived at WalMart it's a 24 hour store so I'm just standing in front of the register...the kid here is not sure when they can sell me one. In fact he's not even sure if they have them...but it's worth it. :apple:

I waited in line once, it was about a 4 hour wait IIRC at the 5th ave store in manhattan for the iPhone 3 about 2 or 3 days after release IIRC. I only did it to profit from selling the phone :p Those days are over

I got to my local :apple: store at about 4am for the iPhone 4 launch. Was still pretty far back in line

Far back in line and not getting one are two completely different things. The apple stores are going to have hundreds upon hundreds of phones. If you are going for a 64gb you're chances increase as well as those are the last to go.

Rumor has it, based on a conversation I just overheard between two people in line, one of whom claimed to be a former employee of the very Apple store we're out in front of, says that most stores will only have around 400 AT&T 16GB black, 400 AT&T 16GB white, and less than 50 each of all the other combinations (32GB, 64GB at&t, Sprint, Verizon, etc.).

No idea if he is just blowing smoke or if he still gets info from store employee friends of his. But he seems to think many people will be in for disappointment.

Though he also said that the stock was the same the day before launch of the 4S, but that they received 3,000 in a shipment on launch day.

So -- not posting as fact. Just hearsay from people down the line from me.
