Epson 2000p, Xerox 7300tn, Canon i450
Theres a spread of printers that include high image quality and life (epson) nice laser colour (xerox), and just plain cheapness (canon).
In terms image quality, nothing can beat a good inkjet printer. I have been extremely happy with my epson 2000p (bought for about $600C three years ago) As a big plus, with pigment inks, you can actually expect your images to keep looking good for more than a few months. The only downside to the epson is that it is really slow.
The Xerox. Had the 'privilege' of making the purchasing recommendation for the last architecture firm that I work for, and after test driving the Tabloid laser options from HP, Lexmark and Xerox we went with the Xerox becuase it had the best colour by a long shot at a competive price.
The Canon. Came my iBook so cost nothing. I use the cheapest generic inks in it for draft stuff. It works. Even with proper inks, though it is nothing like the Epson for print quality.
