My series 3 is a hand me down and I’m too cheap to spend my own hard earned money on a watch when it could be going towards an upgraded Mac or iPad.

Does anyone else still have a 3?

I only use it for text notifications and basic hey siri commands to send a text. I also of course like the step counting features but I have all the health rings and health notifications disabled.

I also use it to pay with Apple Watch Apple Pay which is far superior to using the iPhone.

This is a great question. I have a series 5 and was wondering if I could still use it after support entirely stops even if I’m on say iPhone 17 at the time.

I'm on 16.6 on the phone and the watch is on 8.8.1 (19U512) and so far so good, IOS 17 might change that, but there haven't been any postings to the contrary, but then I wouldn't really expect there to be much talk about it. Us 3 users are few and far between, and I can't see the API changing so drastically it can't sync up a text message or alert without someone saying something about it.

I appreciate the info. I don’t use my watch enough daily to justify buying a new watch once the software updates stop for my series 5. I guess I’ll just keep using it as long as Apple allows it.
