Yesterday, I bought a pair of brand new 2nd Gen AirPod Pros from Best Buy.
I charged it overnight.
When I paired them with my iPhone, the name of the device was: MITCHELL'S AIRPOD PROS
I have no idea who Mitchell is.
Also, I charged it overnight but the unit is only 70% charged.
Did Best Buy give me used 2nd Gen AirPod Pros?

Shouldn’t have anyone’s name associated with them. Pretty sure it’s illegal to sell 2nd hand items as new soooo

Maybe you paired your next door neighbors AirPods? 😂

I hope that you’re making a trip to BestBuy today for an exchange. It sounds like they gave you a returned item.

Two days ago, I bought a pair of 2nd Gen AirPod Pros from Best Buy.
When I paired them with my iPhone, the name of the device was: MITCHELL'S AIRPOD PROS
Having no idea who Mitchell is (and figuring Best Buy sold me a returned item), I brought them back for new ones.
I opened the new ones in the store and paired them with my phone.
The name of the device was AIRPOD PROS or something generic that seemed legit. I was happy.
But when I got home and used them, the name of the device was suddenly MITCHELL'S AIRPOD PROS again!!

How is that possible?
Should I take the second pair back?

When you go to Find My app isn’t there something wrong with them there?
I mean you should have them like this:

The name for the AirPods is associated with the device you paired them with. In Settings~General~About, what is the Name listed?

I think the question that should be asked is were they sealed when you bought them?

Now they come with a pulltab and not a plastic wrap so you can tell if that pulltab has been torn. If you physically opened them, and they weren’t open previously then clearly this is some sort of glitch.

I asked the OP whether the box was sealed, but they never replied. I usually give people the benefit of the doubt, but I don’t find their story credible at this point.

Hi, all.
Sorry for the late reply. The in-laws are in town.

The box was properly sealed with the pull tabs.

The odd part is: I changed the name of the device from MITCHELLS AIRPODS to AIRPOD PRO 2ND GEN. Now when I look up the device on Find My, MITCHELL is located at Best Buy and AIRPOD PRO 2ND GEN is located at my house.

I guess I give up. I’ll just keep them.

You need to remove the returned Mitchell AirPods from Devices in Find My.

Thanks for the reply. I wonder if I hadn’t changed the device’s name from MITCHELL to AIR POD PRO 2ND GEN whether I would have two Mitchells!

The ear buds are great, but the whole thing taints the experience of buying them. I’ll always wonder.
