Did anyone actually want AI baked into their iOS? Just seems like bloat ware to me. Not helpful, necessary or intuitive.

Siri still can’t turn up my ringer/notification volume even with these new smart features when I set my alarm and want to make sure the volume of the alarm is at 100%.

Just seems ridiculous to me.

End rant.

I concur.

1. If you want AI on/in your OS, do it properly, ie useful features.
2. If your main marketing feature for a new phone is AI and you’re 4-6 months behind on the hw release…it’s a pretty big fail. (yes, the 16 IS the best iPhone EVER. That’s not the discussion here).
3. When you actually release the promised AI and its main feature is……mojimoji-sompting. Thats….not really impressive.
4. You are Apple. Get your chip together. You CRUSHED Intel for Corn Flakes sake! Like super crushed…obliterated.
5. Don’t lie….or obfuscate.

That's a pretty concise rant, so thank you.

I was in no hurry to turn Apple Intelligence on. At one point I turned it on, played for a few minutes, and decided to turn it back off.

It's really been a weird flagship feature – so much official hype and bizarre marketing around features it feels like Apple once would still have quietly provided but barely mentioned.

What convinces me, though, is a couple of features they did barely mention: the auto-masking and auto-captioning features in Final Cut Pro. I've waited all my life for something that would do the work I would painstakingly do to correctly and fluidly add subtitles to a video. My first try got me about 95% of the way there in a minute or two. Doing a lasso-type selection around every frame of a video clip of the cat I live with walking through a courtyard with a moving camera, done in a minute or two. Incredible, truly new capabilities that I do want.

I suppose "Apple Intelligence" specifically refers to the popular model-based stuff, but I can believe this whole year, while falling way short of the hype, is more of a hint about a still largely unrevealed future that lives up to it.

As I said several times, Apple rarely is first, but when they introduce a feature, they are good. Just give Apple Intelligence time to be developed.
In the meanwhile, if you don’t like it, don’t use it. AI is the future
It seems a little contradictory to say that once Apple releases a feature it “is good”, but that we need to wait for it to be developed post release…

I remind you Apple Intelligence isn’t fully developed yet.
You don’t like that ? Feel free to buy any Android phone, where the gimmick is there

Indeed, following that logic since apple released the "free" icon placement on the screen, it is completed?!
That feature is - in best case - alpha quality/experimental...

I’d argue that if it was in beta that it should be considered not yet developed. Otherwise, it has certainly been released.

On the defensive suggestion to buy Android.. well I’ll just ignore it.

I turned it all off. The only thing I was somewhat curious about was genmoji because I thought it was a good use of the generative AI slop and could fit aesthetically with how playful emojis look. Turns out it sucks and I find it useless. The rest of the “Apple Intelligence” features are also useless, because I have a functioning brain. I’d rather have the better battery life.

the same could be said for screen time, focus etc etc ...
what is not "Not helpful, necessary or intuitive" for you does not apply to everyone.

Good thing: Apple Intelligence has an on/off button

I would love toggles for other features too.

So why single out Apple Intelligence?

And just for the record: have a 13PM, turned Apple Intelligence off on my Mac and my iPad

I would prefer that Apple focus on making Siri hyper-intelligent with AI. Let ChatGPT handle the writing tools and external requests. Then Apple can focus on truly making Siri useful in complex ways. Here ya go, Siri. At all times you have my messages, emails, calendar, notes, and whatever other apps I allow. Use that info to do your thing. Mom texts me asking if I can do lunch on Friday? You know where I live, you know where my mom lives. You know what my calendar looks like. So right out of the gate, prepare a yes and a no version. Suggest a time based on my calendar. Suggest some restaurants that make sense based on our locations. Factor in drive times based on my schedule.

Also, ChatGPT can write code. I’m not suggesting Siri needs to do the same, but how about complex automations using already existing functionality? This is especially useful with HomeKit.

That’s my pair of pennies.

Talking to Siri is like talking to your ex. It’s just something I try to avoid at all cost.

It is bloatware. I find almost all of it gimmicky and half baked. Maybe the writing tools are somewhat useful but the rest, meh. What a waste of resources when they just released the buggiest iOS in apple history.

Siri is so mentally handicapped it can't even play music when asked to. It's really comatose at this point.

I was wearing a heart rate monitor and Asked Siri what my hr was. No can do. Asked how long I’ve walked nope. I used to only set timers with her. Now I’ve expanded to turning on and off transparency on my AirPods Pro.

I don't care about A.I. nor do i for SIRI , both features may well be the way to go or even the only way in 2100 but by that time i'm gone , Have a Great ending and a Blasting 2025

It is not a “defensive” suggestion. It is a logical conclusion. If you don’t like the way Apple is working, go looking for something else. I’ve been there, several times, and everything is just much worse.

No it’s not. Siri is perfectly fine for basic tasks

Fine. That's your experience. I have had numerous problems with Siri doing the most rudimentary and basic asks like playing music. If it works for you, good for you! doesn't mean it works for everyone else.

On the same principle it doesn’t mean Siri is “mentally handicapped” like you wrote above. It could not be perfect, but Siri is used on a daily basis by millions of people all over the world.
There are several tech comparison online and the final verdict for all of them is that Siri, Alexa and Google assistant have their strong and weak points.

I think artificial intelligence is BS. I think it’s an environmental problem and an electrical grid problem and a tech bro scam to make more freaking money for those tech bros.

I'm still trying it out on my MacBook and iPad. To me, it's out of the way enough in my day to day tasks for me to not bother disabling it. But, I don't think I'd ever have a reason to regularly use it. I'm glad I was able to play around with it on my other devices before deciding to upgrade from my 14 Pro to just be disappointed.
