That's just the way it is. As Apple tightens the belt... more of these kind of stories will probably come to the surface :(

i wouldn't say always; i think the majority of 17 inch takers are getting a pretty darn good experience. but the "field incidence" rate on first time lines usually is higher than settled in ones. it's a calculated risk you take, as with any product, but with more risk.

I remember the B&W G3s being really terrible and buggy as a first line, I've heard a lot of bad things about this model.

Well, these are all understandable... and you can tblame apple for rushing them to the market, at least they didnt realease them immedately.
