I don't want to here from people that paid full price.

Who was able to keep an unlimited data while using a subsidized upgrade plan?

After years of using all the upgrade tricks to keep UDP I finally gave in because of the hassle. I never really took advantage of it anyway.

I had Verizon UDP and they switched me to a 6gig Max plan for $30 to get the subsidized upgrade. I had to ask for it. They tried to give 2gb.

I pay $110 for
National loyalty plan 550 minutes
6 plus 2gb
6s plus 6gb

All other options were more expensive.

Just curious if anybody was able to figure out a way to keep UDP.

I did the Edge plan on my 5S and 6+ and was able to keep my unlimited. Verizon let me keep it. This time I just bought the 6S out right and kept my unlimited. Working at BBY, I know there's no way to do it unless Verizon is just feeling generous. 99.9% of the time, the answer to "can I keep my unlimited" is "No"

By subsidized you mean two year contract?

I did. Preordered iPhone 6S 128gb through ATT's premier website. At checkout I just selected my current data plan- 'Grandfathered Unlimited' or whatever it was called.

EDIT:

Looked on my invoice- at checkout it was called 'Data Unlimited for iPhone on 4G LTE'.

I did with AT&T. I've NEVER had issues with keeping it and I've upgraded numerous times to new iPhones. I guess I'm lucky because I've heard so many horror stories from others. But now I feel better about AT&T - at least they still allow us to use the subsidy and keep it.

+1 I've never had any issues with ATT and this was my fourth iPhone purchase.

I've never been pressured to drop/ switch from the unlimited plan even when I left my family plan a year ago when everyone else switched over to Next.

I used the subsidized upgrade on my TDP line then switched the phone to my UDP line. Otherwise, I would've had to pay full price to keep my UDP.

I'm a heavy data user, I pay full price for my phones and $150/mo for the line (unlimited everything, including LTE hotspot). I'm in the minority though I'm sure.

So it looks like there was no way to keep a UDP plan on Verizon with having a subsidized 2 year contract. Att users are still able to.

I was just curious.

I gave up my Verizon UDP earlier in the year when the bring your own device line discounts made it really cheap. I had been buying full price for years to keep it, and finally gave in when my monthly bill was $60 less for 10Gb of shared data on two lines vs keeping unlimited.

We haven't looked back since. Turns out 10Gb is essentially unlimited for us, as we haven't even come close to the data cap. And now I save enough money each year to buy a full priced iPhone outright.

And, yes, without back doors or Best Buy tricks, as far as I know, it is very difficult to get the subsidy and keep your UDP. You can always tack on the cost of edge or Apple Upgrade, but you would really have to have an old cheap UDP plan to make that cost work out in your favor. For us, that was even more expensive.

I am a very heavy data user. I got tired of giant phone bills with Verizon so I moved to MetroPCS two years ago. $60 unlimited everything and I can use it as a mobile hotspot for multiple devices for free. 4G LTE and it works everywhere, including the boonies.

Yeah no way that would work for me. I use at least 15GB a month alone.

Keeping my UDP at AT&T. For those who wanted they could use the subsidy and keep their plan. Turns out the UDP plan is quite good for me.

Ordered a Note 5 subsidized upgrade on 9/24 through VZW online and was able to keep my UDP. Should've gotten an iPhone 6S+ instead to flip it for a profit but with so many defects it would've been nearly impossible to exchange without risking losing my UDP. Fortunately, with the Note 5 the quality is high and consistent and my 2nd one is identical to the 1st one I paid full price before becoming upgrade eligible. As a bonus, VZW also had a $200 trade in on any phone from any carrier. Sending in a phone that normally shows $1 value.

I was able to keep it again. I have my line and my wife's. She has a 2gb plan and I have UDP. I always place my order for the phone using her upgrade (I first transfer the upgrade to her if it's on mine). Then when the phone arrives I simply tell the rep I want to activate it on my line. That way I avoid losing UDP. No SIM switching or anything. Just buy it using her line (as long as the upgrade is on her line) and then activate the phone on mine. Still works.

I then transferred my iPhone 6 to her. I also was offered a credit for the $40 new phone activation fee this time without even asking. Was shocked they did that. Now I just need to bring in her old 5 for a $200 credit.
