Darn! Lots of stock on the Apple Store in Halifax now, for pickup today if one wants one.

However, my online order progressed to “preparing to ship” last night, and can’t be cancelled, and I don’t want to deal with the hassle of having to send the online one back when it arrives.

I guess that I can still wait for a week or two, though.

You can return the online order to the physical store and save the effort of mailing it back. :)

My in store order just charged my card so I'm good now. I just canceled my online order I did when pre-orders opened up.
Yeah mine is now Ready for Pickup. I got in at the last second for pickup as they were no longer available for my desired configuration once I hit go.

12.9 1TB SG 5G

I did see a lot of non 5G so looks like stock is pretty good at launch. The online only first round likely helped to cool the in-store off a bit.

It‘s tempting, but I think that I’m just going to leave things as they are. I can be patient a bit longer, and after all, it looks as though my online order will be arriving considerably earlier than expected anyway. Who knows, I could get lucky and see it by late next week.

Pretty much every store around me in the Philly area still seems to have 512GB and smaller sizes still available for 12.9. It is only once you get to 1TB+ that the availability starts to drop off like a cliff now. All in all I'll say I'm pretty happy with the launch day performance out of Apple.

Congrats! And yeah… I’ve been monitoring Apple Store stock, had the same configuration locally here. But my BB order has been charged.. processed and to be shipped by Monday, I don’t mind the wait… my eyes are set on WWDC, but in the meantime I can live vicariously through launch day customers lol.

Phoenix, AZ has in store pickup today for 12.9 256 WiFi. So tempted but I’m still waiting on my “fire sale” 12.9 2020 model from BestBuy.

Just ordered/paid for a 1TB Wifi in Chicago and am scheduled to pick it up at 10am.

Got a 1TB Cellular for pickup, like 10 of the 15 Apple Stores near me sold out of it within like 15 minutes of pickups opening, but one still has stock now.

Pickup in store today - 12.9 1TB WIFI Space Grey and Logitech Combo Touch keyboard case. I will need to return the 256GB that is our for delivery.....and the Combo Touch coming Monday.
All I "meant" to buy today was the Logitech since they are in stock at the store....then I saw her face dah dah dah da

Same situation here in Los Angeles. At first I had a scare because it showed out of stock just as I was checking out around 5AM Pacific but I was able to complete the order after I removed the Smart Folio from my cart.

Now though, no more 1-2TB cellular near me. There's still some 1-2TB Wi-Fi in a couple of Apple Stores but just in one color.

That extra ram must be luring buyers to upgrade. I’m good with the base model and 8gb. I did get a cellular one though since there’s a 200 promotion.

I tried to think what I’d use a tb for. And obviously wouldn’t see any benefit from extra ram. 380 after trade in.

My new Ipad pro 12.9 have an impact near the sim card so will try exchange to new one tomorrow in Apple Store…

Most likely just lower stock to begin with. There may be have a handful going 1TB just to get RAM but I doubt majority are willing to spend the extra $400-700 just for RAM.

I've wanted 1TB since 2018. Just couldn't justify the $1699/1899 for 1TB LTE back then so I stuck to using my older Pros. Now the upgrade is much bigger and with the specs, I can actually see myself using it for 5 years.

Lol, there's 2 stores near me just across the street from each other. 15 stores is probably not uncommon in highly dense urban areas.

16GB RAM is for future proofing when MacOS is fully baked and Apple flips the switch to be able to download it. 8GB isn't sufficient for MacOS. It sucks that you can't get 16GB RAM without storage upsell.

I think this is exactly it. With the shortages I think Apple prioritized the configurations that will be the most popular. I still see 512GB and lower available for local pickup near me so people will have supply who go in today.

Apple would prefer to delay a 1TB+ order when they can sell many more of the others. No use having higher capacity collecting dust.

Especially when they still haven't yet proven to us that 16GB of RAM matters.

Ugh. I told myself I didn't need a new iPad. I bought the 11" Pro last summer as a birthday gift to myself. I've used it considerably more than I ever have, mainly to watch/stream content. That 12.9" screen has been so tempting but I told myself I wouldn't do it. Then the new ones come out, I see the delivery date keeps getting pushed back, now to mid July. "If I can't get one now, I don't need one, I'm not going to wait." It's the perfect way to justify not needing one. My willpower can and will overcome.

Stupid me then decides to check the Apple website this morning, and they have the exact one I want in stock available for pickup at the Apple Store six miles from me.

Did I mention I have absolutely atrocious willpower?

I was able to do store pick up for 12.9 SG 1TB w/5G today in SoCal, canceled my web order for June 9-23 ship date.

Yeah, the cellular models especially likely have much lower demand than wifi-only. The 1TB wifi is still available in 2 stores while the 2TB wifi is still available in 7 stores within a 20-mile radius from me.

I have a total of 5 nearby me.

I believe 15 is uncommon…. unless I’m adding Houston and DFW to the mix, then yeah… I could get up to 10 or 11 stores. But 15 in one area, that’s unrealistic.
Now the upgrade is much bigger and with the specs, I can actually see myself using it for 5 years.
I’m thinking 4 years for me… might be the max. I’m leaning toward 3, but I don’t know if I could do 5 years. I’m sure a redesign will come about that will make me upgrade. That’s one of reason I upgraded to the 2018 iPad Pro… the design grabbed my attention.

And in another 2 years… Apple might consider a redesign.

Hence, I specifically mentioned highly dense urban areas (New York, SF, LA). There's 12 within a 20-mile radius from me in the Los Angeles area. Probably more than 20 if you expand it to 50 miles.

Never really did care about redesigns. I used to upgrade whenever Apple increased max storage capacity but now, I think I'll be quite content with 1TB. For budgeting, my minimum service life is 3 years, too, though. If it lasts longer, then all the better.
