Current trending already shows that Android will overtake iPad in 2015 for 100%. With Microsoft in a mix, nobody knows. But unless Apple does something drastic, I believe 2015 or even 2014 will be a decline for iPad. Same way as Android slowly but surely overtook iPhone marketshare.

That highly speculative graph would be true IF Apple sticks with the same form factor.
That's what I said by Apples to loose.

If Apple offers more variants for different market segments, then they stay on top.

Considering how horribly slow apple is to changing anything about mobile devices (Hello, UI that had no major changes last 5 years), I do not see this trend going away.

Yeah but don't forget they have had no competition and the iOS UI has worked well for them. That was the genius of Steve Jobs to not rest past on past accomplishment but to keep pushing forward.

I hope those in charge of Apple will have learned from him and the past. You gotta keep going forward and coming up with new and fresh ideas because the competition will try and catchup and over take you.

Win 8 adoption will happen on the desktop simply because of the ubiquity of Windows and x86 hardware. The key thing is if, IF, IF MS can get developers to start making metro apps instead of ‘desktop’ ones, it means those apps will work on the RT version too, making it a much more appealing prospect to tablet manufacturers to put on devices. In that case, they'll wipe the floor with everyone who doesn’t specifically want an iPad/iOS

As long as Microsoft feels the need to charge $100+ for any OS they market
they will continue on a decline.

Embedded devices like a tablet that are saddled with an OS tax will only hasten price and partner dissatisfaction.

Whatever features they can offer will not outweigh the fact that they cannot compete on price.

There is that possibility. However, Android still doesn't have many apps that are tablet specific -- and so far the best selling Android tablet, the Kindle Fire, is a very stripped down and customized version of Android. Definitely NOT what Google intended--that's why they released the Nexus.

Microsoft is indeed the wildcard. They learned from all of Google's mistakes with Android and Apple's successes with iOS.

And I think that is the key. For the foreseeable future I can't see Apple being unseated from the top spot in the Tablet sector. They have the ecosystem in place. As much as I love Android, I have to agree that there are very few specific Apps tailored just for Android whereas you can find them a dime a dozen on iOS.

Apple but not because of hardware but software. Tim Cook hit the nail on the head during WWDC. Applications made for the iPad are simply better than the same application for Android. Plus the sheer number of iPad specific apps helps as well.

Developers don't seem to want to develop for Android tablet and no one is even making apps for Windows 8. Perhaps in the future Microsoft could round up some great developers, but Apple still has such an amazing head start.
