So I bought a case for my rMBP, and the legs kept felling off so I glued the sucker back on.
Who would have known, the glue went through the case and basically glued the case and my rMBP together without me knowing.
This one day, I was like, hell, this is ugly and decide to take the case off and...the bottom case basically pulled the black rubber feet off.
I did a very quick google search on the price of bottom shell and black feet, bottom shell was somewhere around 80-100 on those ifixit.com and the likes, and the feet is available for 25 dollars per set from apple.com

So I contacted applecare, surprisingly they would cover it, they asked me if i just want the feet send t my home free of charge and i can do it by myself, then I told the rep that I want apple genius to fix it, because i don't want to accidentally screew anything up, so as standard procedure he made an appointment for me.

the next day I went to apple care, they couldn't find the parts and the genius basically went, well, i don't know what to do but to replace rthe whole bottom shell, which would be an out of warranty cosmetic repair, and i rejected. He then advised me to get in touch with applecare again and have them send me the feet and bring them in, and so they can repair it like that.

I then logged onto applecare's web chat and asked the rep to send me some parts, he told me that it should be done at the store and its not something i should worry about, and advise me to speak with a manager.

So ok, i grabbed this apple specialist behind me asking for a manager, shortly after, i was surrounded by three blue shirts. One of them took care of my imac repair earlier and recognized me, and said he will take care of me. then he whispers "man you can't say the word manager here, the world will collapse, everyone will freak out, it's not worth it for something i can take care of you know?"

As I was giggling over his sense of humor, he quickly start searching for the parts on his iPad....item by item, and no luck there.

Then since I was still logged on to the web chat with apple care, the apple care rep wanted to call me in person because its a little more complicated than we originally anticipated. He called me within a few minutes and said he is looking for the part number and will have them shipped asap. The genius that was next to me then whispers "ask him whats the part number...i doubt he has it, unless he can get a rabbit out of a hat"

That this time, the applecare rep transferred me to another rep in texas, and the new rep quickly told me that she will be looking for the part number and its going to take a while, so she will just call me back later.

As we hang up the phone, the hipster genius dude went back to the back, and few mins later he came out and said "man, I just checked the list for all the parts world wide, we have a list of all the parts available throughout the world and nope, theres no feet at all, lets see how applecare is going to play this"

then we had a little chat about how is it to work for apple as a genius and applecare rep and all the random stuff that we could think of...... and then, applecare called me.

"sorry sir, actually there was a bit of misunderstanding... as of 2012 all the laptops have feet and bottom shell merged into one piece so you can't really just replace the feet, you have to change the whole thing, everybody just assumed since feet are available for older models, they are also made available for the newer model, apparently its not the case."

"well, so what can i do now?"

"if you want to have that repaired you can request an out of warranty repair at your own expense, but that's pretty much it."

"Oh..well applecare told me before that it is covered, is there anything we can work out?"

"well, let me call your store right now and see what we can get from there, I will call you back"

    "Ok thank you"

*me wondering around in apple store, getting frustrated over a lost foot on a macbook pro, thinking why even bother
    5min later...

"Hi, ok so i just spoke with the genius bar manager at your store, he said he has no idea about your case but heres what we agreed upon, he's going to give you an one time exception for this and he already has ordered the parts, so in 3-5 days when the parts arrive, they will give you a call to arrange a repair service."

    "awesome, thank you very much"

the genius guy i was talking to earlier asked me about the situation, and i told him about the one time exception.

"yeah that's what i was going to do, but i just wanted to know the part number, i knew they didn't have it man"

interesting encounter over a freaking feet, if i knew things could be so complicated i would just have leave it as is. I thought it would be nice to have it fix and applecare happen to misunderstood me and said thats something they can take care.... and..oh well, at least it looks new again :cool::cool:

I had a broken foot on a 2009 MBP and my apple store did the same thing, had to replace the whole bottom cover. They also did it under warranty, though I was puzzled over the design of the cover - the feet can break off, but the only way to fix it is by replacing the whole cover. So wasteful!

Glad it worked out for you. :)

That's kind of stupid... if a foot falls off it should something that should be fixed and covered under warranty, it's not essential but certainly necessary, I certainly wouldn't want bare aluminum scraping and scratching up.
Glad it worked out but seems like a bloody **** show
