I just discovered that the Now Playing glance can be used to control music when using the Google Play Music app. I never tried it before because I figured it'd only work with the stock music player. Has it always worked this way?

pretty sure it acts the same as the control center player controls on your phone.

Yep. The only different is when you control Apple Music the volume slider is now circular. :O

This. The controls on the phone work with anything playing, so not sure why anyone would expect this to work differently. I use it to control podcasts as well.

I think the expectation, knowing apple, is that it would work with apple's apps (like apple music, maybe podcast, that type of thing) not that it would just be the control center mirror. With that being said, I'm glad I don't need to "run" a spotify app or whatever to change songs or adjust the volume.
