i was just sitting on my computer this afternoon and suddenly nothing was working properly. the OS loads very slowly...then once it does load, regular apps load okay, but safari and firefox and finder will not show up. it goes to sleep much faster than it usually does. i get spinning beachballs all the time. strangely, if i click a link in adium, it will come up in safari just fine. i just upgraded to safari 4, so is that maybe a problem? any ideas?

Have you run hardware tests to find if your computer is failing?

    - Start up the computer while holding down the 'd' key to run diags.

    - Boot from your restore disk. Run disk utility. Repair permissions.

My dad has a similar thing happen. Turned out it was the logic board and it had to be replaced. He has AppleCare so it wasn't a big deal.

Sit on a chair instead of your computer, that may help a bit :)
