I'm thinking i should have emptied the trash bin more often. it was at something around 300,000 files to remove. i dont understand how it could get that high. its been emptying since yesterday afternoon, and i still have 85,000 to go.

It would suck if someone thought it would be funny to put the contents of your HD into the trash when you weren't paying attention.

I would create a folder on your desktop and move all those file into the folder; then use Terminal and rm -rf that folder; much faster.

Well if it is taking that long to delete I would say that you must have used "secure delete"- bet you wish now you would not have! ;)

well..... after a full reinstall and all that crap...

nah, it was years of music, pictures and school docs (all doubles and triples after being on a laptop in rough shape. and yes it is secure empty trash, i didnt know there was a faster way. almost done now anyway. only 33k left. itll be done by morning. :)

Could he have deleted regularly and then opened up Disk Utility to use the writing zeroes feature? As far as I know it's the same result in the end.

I had almost 100,000 files on my time machine backup... what's the deal? lol.

Took almost an hour to delete it (I think it was about 96,000 files).

done. i did the last 25k with plain 'empty trash'. everythings fine as well.

whatever. cars dont use oil. they only need gas. oil is for lawnmowers and stirfry.

btw. my car needs an oil change in another 8k or so.

HOLY! 300K files?!?!? Register for the world records... For me, there arent more than a few files in there. I usually empty once I stick it in.

Not all that impressive really. Perform and Archive and Install and see how many files end up in the Previous Systems folder.
