I'd rather have it on a 15" HR. I need the express card for esata connections to a scratch disk for video editing. I'm coming from a Late 2008 15" unibody (the only 15" unibody with expresscard) and the resolution was tight for video editing. A 17" will be a great improvement for me but the size for travel is what I will have to get use to.

I ordered the 17" because I use it to test and use various ExpressCard products including those listed on Sonnet Technology's site:

It's the only way to add external eSATA interface, or add a second FireWire 800 data channel, or a second Gigabit Ethernet port to the MacBook Pro. It's also useful for broadband modems and flash card reading.

Have you personally tested the Tempo SATA Pro? I had problems and sent it back using a OWC Elite AL-Pro mini.

I just ordered my 17" MacBook Pro (and sold my old MacBook). I didn't really order it for the expresscard slot, but I'm excited by the different things I could use it for. I may look into an SD card reader or extra SSD for iTunes (as a previous poster mentioned). Fun times.

EDIT: after doing a quick google search, I'm not too thrilled by the capacity of expresscard SSDs right now. I'm seeing a lot of 32gb capacities. My iTunes library is way bigger than that. What's the largest SSD expresscard out right now?

128gb is the largest capacity out there, but one of these cards will set you back around $400 US or more. I'm still researching them myself, as I'm looking in to getting one as well. I'll likely go for a 64gb one, which seem to be going for around $220 ish..

If you need a CF card reader, this is pretty much the best one you can buy:

I can read my cards at over 50MB/s (of course the cards I have support that speed as well).

As with the ExpressCard myself, I would love to have it in place the SD card slot as I have a DSLR that uses CF cards; I already have the readers, eSATA, Firewire 400 & 800, USB, soundcard, etc. solutions… all rendered useless by the SD slot that I have no use for; however my MacBook Pro was 17" and it was too bit for me—I couldn't use it on the airplane (coach), too big or most college desktop (the flip up ones); it was nice to watch videos on, but now I have a desktop and the 15" high-resolution display is amazing.

Hehe, I have a 15" first gen unibody MacBook Pro with ExpressCard slot! 2.53GHz, it wasn't really worth the premium over the 2.4 GHz, but at least you know what to buy if you want the ExpressCard option. Just check the graphics card, some of them are faulty. Oh, and of course the batteries suck!

i love the 17 inch screen but i'm so used to the 15 inch which leave the house rarely. i am in dilemma selling my late 2008 macbook pro and buy the anti glare 17 or keep the current one and save my money. the battery life and i5/i7 cpu is very tempting. please need some advise.
went to the apple store in London i haven't seen hi-res 15
