I live in California, I had to pay $363 for my 16gb mini, I'm curious how much you guys had to pay in taxes and if you had to pay for the BS "recycling fee"...

I think a couple states have the recycle fee. We happen to live in one of them. I think it's worse that we have to pay unsubsidized taxes on subsidized purchases. IE $56 in taxes for $200 iPhone. Essentially 27% tax.
Yes, I totally agree. When I think of any phone's price, I add on $50 in my head, California's taxes are ridiculous.
Completely, I would move were I not working/trying to succeed in the film business. Kind of hate this whole state.

Have you ever been to Europe? VAT of up to 27%. Ignoring other taxes (like the tax for copyright owners). The iPad mini costs here, without VAT, $350.
Really, Americans pay quite little compared to other wealthy (wealthier) countries.

Amazon doesn't have it, but you're right, they don't have sales tax in California, but I think that'll go away soon.
Right now I think Amazon charges tax in only 10 states (NY, Washington and a few others) But come next year, PA, NJ and some others will add tax. Amazon's competitive advantage will soon diminish and it will come down to product NOT price!
