That's insane!
See how lucky you Americans are! Even with tax you still pay a lot less than us Europeans. Apple is ripping off European customers... As for the taxes in US, I think as long as you can buy at places without the tax (like amazon or macmall), it's your loss that you didn't and you shouldn't really complain ;) If I lived in US I would've bought on amazon and save myself a 50 bucks ;)

I haven't been paying attention, Amazon actually got rid of it. California is in a close second for worst place to live (tax wise) haha

I didn't buy the Mini but the tax rate is a whopping 15% up here in Quebec, so just the 16GB Mini with no accessories would clock in at $379 with tax..... :(

In the UK the price is £269, which converted to dollars is $432 for 16gb. As usual we overpay in the UK :/

Have you ever been to Europe? VAT of up to 27%. Ignoring other taxes (like the tax for copyright owners). The iPad mini costs here, without VAT, $350.

Really, Americans pay quite little compared to other wealthy (wealthier) countries.

Don't worry - if Obama gets re-elected we'll join the rest of the world paying ridiculous taxes so we can let the government take care of us....

In the UK the pre VAT price is around £215.00 which is roughly $344 - only $15 difference. Not exactly a rip off.

How many times do we have to mention it. THE US PRICE IS SALES TAX FREE, UK PRICE INCLUDES VAT @20%
Not exactly correct. As long as there's plenty of options in the US to ommit the tax (amazon, macmall, some states with 0% tax) we can compare US prices before tax with EU prices with tax. Just because in the EU we have no option to buy Apple products without the tax, and Americans have.

Ah, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania! Went to undergrad there in the late 80's. What royally chapped my fanny was the Washington township charging me a $50 'occupational privilege tax' out of my first minimum wage paycheck! I think it was name that galled me as much as anything else.

Tried calling the municipality to see how much the 'privilege of sitting around on your ass all day tax' and was told I was lucky I didn't get arrested for calling. Then asked if I'd get the $50 back if was no longer working due to being in jail, and they hung up on me.

HAHAHAHAHA. I bet they didn't expect the jail part.
