Who's NOT Happy With 5.1?

iOS 5.1 has been great for us....it had made our iPad like new again.
5.0 seemed to slow it down and it safari would close every few days...now, it works flawlessly. Apple, home run with this update.🙂

Battery draining? Here's a fix: Stop being addicted to the phone and go do something active.
I'll second that volume issue from above. My phone does not ring at the same volume, and all of my ringtones sound different. I don't know exactly how to describe it, but they all sound very treble heavy.

This probably has to do with the way each song was mixed and mastered.
this isn't an apple issue. It's a music industry issue.
Try playing with the options in iTunes. There are things you can do to make each ringtone sound more or less loud.

Still... I don't feel it should've just changed from one day to the next. I'm using the same tones I used before. Why should they have changed at all?
I'm not that happy with the new update. I actually lost more functionally compared to what I gained by upgrading. Go figure. 🙁 If I could downgrade to 5.0.1 I would.

Perfect? No, it's not supposed to be.
If you want perfect, you'll never find it in any OS or Platform. Some are better than others even within the same brand.
That's just a fact of life in the digital space. There's no way for an OS & the hardware it runs on to meet everyone's needs & preferences.

Just kind of upsetting functions that worked in previous iOS versions no longer work in 5.1. Almost like downgrading when trying to upgrade. 😡

I most certainly understand how you feel, I don't disagree. However, one of the drawbacks we as Apple users endure, is the odd approach Apple takes when it comes to solving various technical issues. Priorities aren't always ordered in an apparent common sense manner. Especially from a users viewpoint. Apple does things their way, a way that's not always consistent. It's a characteristic that has grown more noticeable, the more powerful Apple becomes.
They have the upper hand on everything. With a particularly compliant & tolerant user base, it empowers them to keep the customer waiting with little or no consequences. Many of Apples buyers are so heavily programmed they'll stop thinking & rely on Apple to tell them what they want. An amazing testimony to the power of influence.

I've found the upgrade to 5.1 has given me some subtle - but important - benefits.
Not the least of which is that a couple of Apps that would periodically shut down on my 1st Gen iPad no longer seem to do so. And this was without the Apps themselves being updated. So obviously 5.1 allows for better memory management.
Its this sort of quiet, iterative approach to constant improvement (of a two year old product) that keeps me a happy Apple customer.

Actually that's exactly how they think, that's what keeps demand up for improvements.
It's why the first iPhone failed to include 3G, at a time when even RIM included it in BlackBerrys. The list (no copy & paste) of examples goes on & on, right up to the present models. It's Apples primary marketing strategy. One look at how much control & influence Apple has over their flock speaks volumes.
That was the Steve Jobs effect. Now a thing of the past, it will be quite interesting to see what Apple does in the absence of their master magician.

This is my biggest complaint. I use these type of playlists about 95% of the time, so this is a big feature for me. This was actually fixed in 5.0, and continued to work in 5.0.1, but it is again broken in 5.1. I need to start testing these new versions on my seldom-used Touch. Is it possible to downgrade back to 5.0.1?

I'll disagree with this statement. I think many of Apple's customers simply want what's present to work well, regardless of how many customization options are present (or not). In other words, these people don't need hundreds of customization options - they don't necessarily care. As long as it works well, is easy to use, consistent in design so they don't need to refer to instructions and gives enough options to make it work for the majority of people, it's good enough.
I don't think that makes people iSheep and I don't think it makes people wait for Apple to tell them what they want. Just because the user base isn't filled with hackers, rooters and custom ROM loading developers doesn't mean the users have switched off their brains. One of many reasons people use iOS (like OS X) is for it's fit and finish, not because it's thrown in every bell & whistle under the sun.
And also don't forget that just because Apple advertises a feature as new and groundbreaking, it doesn't mean that the users have decided to let Apple tell them what they need. It's advertising, plain and simple. And Apple is very, very good at it. Ford advertises their new car as the best automobile ever... the people who buy it don't necessarily feel that such statements are true; instead, they buy it because it suits their needs - not because Ford told them to.
Apple's massive sales aren't because people are being programmed to buy it - they buy it because it suits their needs better than the competition. And there's more to one's needs than a simple feature count. If a product is crap, it doesn't matter how many features it has.
I happen to believe Apple's products are better than the competition. And not because Apple told me it's so.

Don't know about anyone else, but the Home button on my iPhone 4 seems to have regained it's responsiveness with 5.1.
So apart from the other additions, this alone makes me a happy iSheep.

I've not been happy with IOS 5.x in general, because it has broken the bluetooth in my 2009 Nissan Murano. I have a friend still on 4.x and paired their phone with my car and it works perfectly. Use my phone or my wife's on 5.x, and the sound cuts in and out.
