My parents home router is pretty much open and unprotected. How can I tell who is on it and what they are possibly doing? Is there any way to monitor this?

Obviously I will setup a password for them, but I wanted to see if anyone was snooping around or using mooching internet

Yeah, go into your router's settings....type something like 192.168.11.1 into Safari / Firefox and look at the routing table / DHCP table / Client monitor.
(DHCP won't always work if a computer connected to your network has set up its own IP address.)
