I am installing OSX on my OCZ right now. The process has been fully documented and will be posted when I am done. Thanks!

it was installed fine and working for a few days and then today i was working on it in safari and it completely locked up. beachballs. I power cycled it and it got stuck at the white apple logo. I couldnt get a leopard disc to boot it, it just kept loading the hdd after spinning the cd, finally we mounted the SSD on my friends MBP and we noticed there was no partition on it. Nothing, the whole drive was wiped. Worst part is my final project was on there and my most up to date version was there. I lost about a days worth of work and I have now reverted to the 160gb stock drive. We tried to repartition it and kept getting resourse busy errors and finally gave up. I think the drive is shot if anyone has any ideas let me know because this POS is going back to newegg pronto.:(

Are you exchanging it because you suspect you just got a bad lemon or are you returning it for a refund? With all the other bad press the JMicron ssd drives are getting, having a drive wipe itself clean of partitions within the first few days isn't helping our confidence in OCZ drives.

Interesting. It's the first time I've read of one going bad. Mine's obviously fine.

I RMAed it today I am getting a refund from Newegg. Great speed not worth the risk I was up until 2am last night rewriting a project i lost because of this hard drive. Good bye!

Fair enough. It's a good job standard drive's never go wrong. Oh, wait...

standard drives faults are well known and recovery techniques are already in place. As long as the platters inside a standard hdd are intact you can recover data.

Why don't you install windows in boot camp and use io meter.

Hi all i'm following this thread aswell, i'm at the point of buying a MBP to and am thinking about trying out a ssd drive from ocz too.
First thing that i notice here is that it is compared to the the stock 5400rpm drives, normally i always put a 7200rpm drive in my laptops just to get the best speeds out of them, so i'm wondering how much of a speed increase it giives in comparising to those.

I think there is a good drive speed tester for mac from AJA free downloadable, with wich you can do a read write test to see how fast it actually is because i',m told the nummers they list are not even close to actuall perfromance, i would be nice if you ( Oliver ) could do that ;-).

it's fast. It especially shines when reading lot of different files.

Ie, while os x is crunching away at post start up, you launch dashboard - normally the laptop would grind to a halt while the widgets are loaded, clicks don't register for a second or two - not so with the SSD! System is just as responsive, and the widgets would load in a second altogether.

Basicly i wanna use it with itunes, serato schratch and a recording, whil i notice any difference when i use it like that , or do you need to use more then 3 or 4 apps at a time to notice it after the start up?

I so wanna try this afoordable ssd from ocz but i do live shows with my rig so i can't have any stuttering or stuff like that ;-).

Keep in mind that OCZ is coming out with the next version of the SSD called the Vertex series. Those SSDs will offer drool worthy 250 gigs of storage as opposed to only 128.

No idea yet if they've ditched the JMicron controller. Here's hoping that they do.

The 120 gig size is more then enough for me i've always used a 100 gig 7200rpm hdd till now and havent run out of space so far ,so that no problem.
Reliability is what could be the problem and i understand that moving small files is not that fast on ssd drives so is using dj software moving a lot of small files or not, i realy would not now  .

PS any indication of when those new one's will be available ?

Just did a bit more research on the new OCX Vertex SSD drives, and I think we might finally have the holy grail of SSD drives. These suckers are available sometime in December they say, here's more info on the specs:

Now for the million dollar question. Did they finally get rid of that piece of junk JMicron controller? According to an official OCZ support staff posting in this thread here (message #23 in the thread), the answer is...

NO MORE PIECE OF JUNK JMICRON CONTROLLER!

http://www.ocztechnologyforum.com/forum/showthread.php?p=321005

I'll wait for some official reviews before I believe them. No offense to OCZ but until somebody outside of OCZ has dissected it and verifies there's no JMicron garbage, I still won't believe it. But if it turns out to be true, this could become the dream drive for all Macbooks :)

Data, it comes in other sizes too. You don't have to get the 250 gig, there's a 128, 64 gig, etc.

If it is coming this month i'll wait for sure, and my guess is that the 250 gig version will be around 5 or 600 so ill be happy to buy a 128gig one thank you ;-).

I say bring them on , if the 128 gig version is around 300 euro again of lower ill jump in and buy one ;-).

Thanks for the info tubbymac, ill be watching this thread closely to hear about any new developments on the ocz drives .
