The current thinking is that existing iPhone owners (like me) won't be able to upgrade instore, they will have to do it on-line or over the phone and their 3G iPhone will be delivered to them - in the same way that all O2 upgrades are done.

The theory is based on this information, for existing iPhone owners who want to upgrade, from the 02 website:

"This special early upgrade offer is only available online at o2.co.uk"

and from numerous people who have spoken to O2 staff who have confirmed that existing iPhone upgrades will not be done in-store

I still have my doubts that O2 will have them delivered to us on the 11th… :(
 
I've told my boss I'm not coming in until I get my new iPhone, she is surprisingly cool with it. I'd like to get it as early as possible so I can just come in late instead of taking any vaca time.

What kind of lines is everyone expecting to be waiting in to get it?
 
This is a strange one for me as I work two shifts a day. 6am-10am then 2:30pm-6:30pm. So, I don't need to take a day off, I can just pop into The Mall at about half 10 on the way back from my morning shift. I just hope there will be some juicy black 16gb 3g iPhones left for the picking by then :confused:
 
I'm not taking off, I don't have to be at work till 10AM so I will pick it up that morning and then head to work after syncing it up with iTunes.
 
There was no poll option for just going in late so I voted for sick day. I have a really flexible schedule.
 
I'm a graduate research assistant with no summer courses. Of course I'll miss some work. Just a bit more than a week to go!!
 
I am working a night shift the day before so I finish at 8am that day.
If O2 are doing upgrades in store then I will take myself down there after work and pick up my new phone then. If not then I will go home and wait for the courier.
 
I cant take the day off since I run my own store, however I dont have to be at work until 10am, so plenty of time to get my iphone at 8am, wait in as many lines as it will take and then take my new phone to work to charge it and play :)
 
Going to work late, hopefully be at work by 9:00am cant afford to take too much time off of work, with the price of GAS and all. LOL
 
I'm not skipping school or calling in sick, but I am taking a vacation day. Get our phones, go to the pool with the family then off to a political event. Can't wait!

Really!? Pretty narrow minded of you if you think it's just a phone.

Luckily for me, no wife or kids to worry about, so I personally look forward to getting the new iPhone 3G, taking it home, buying and downloading Super Monkey Ball and CroMag Rally and playing those for a couple of hours without having to go to work. See if you can do that on just any "It's a PHONE!"
 
I dont start work until 11am on Friday leaving me plenty of time to acquire, take home and unlock my iPhone, especially with the 7.02am launch (UK). At work is where ill play with it. Best of both worlds :D

I do have to go to the local store (Carphone Warehouse) to achieve this, guess thats the only annoying part.

Well, no.. :cool: it isnt JUST a phone...however it is a gadget....but, I doubt most people are going to be going to the park or pool anyway at 8am on a Friday morning lol

If I dont get out early to go and buy a new gadget, I would either be just sleeping in, or sitting around watching tv waiting to get ready for work. Its not like Im missing out on much early on a Friday morning :D
 
I will work while in line if I have to. I can get all of my work email using the phone already and can call into any meetings I need to. I am a telecommuter and can just make up the time later.

I will get to AT&T maybe an hour before they open and am lucky enough to be at the far end of all time zones so I will have plenty of time to read postings and see real pictures of the final phones so I can finally make my choice between black and white.

I already checked with my local store and if they run out they will take your order and call you when the phones get to the store. I am hoping they will tell the lines where the cutoff point is (if it is long) and create a separate activation line and order line.
 
i have summer school and im not buying the 3G. i just wanna get 2.0 on my iphone. so i just need to know what time the software is going to be released
 
ive taken the day off work. its only a half day anyways. finish at 1pm but im going away for the weekend at 5 pm wasnt sure if id have time to get the phone and pack etc.

besides i wanna get it at 7am, cant wait

Yep, i just took the day off from the pet store to wait in line. Great use of my time, not making money and waiting in a line to get a new iPhone. Haha
