So I was reading an article tonight about why Apple is doing 2 weeks of preorder instead of the standard 1 week. Got me thinking.... If Apple is really holding out for an extra week to make the Holiday Quarter better that is kinda crappy for the consumer..

Your thoughts?

here is the article:

My guess is that Apple wants to have extra days to put together more shipments from China to be available at 9/25. Who knows, it may be part of the reason why there's so much stock even a couple of days after the pre-order started.

I think they saw it gave them extra time with the Watch so my guess is they will use these two weeks to see what needs to be tweaked in the production. By the looks of things they need to ramp up 6s+ Rose Gold models.
But it really makes more sense this way. It gives them extra time to prepare for launch. It sucks for us though because I WANT MY PHONE YESTERDAY!!! Lol

I agree,Apple could of gotten a quote that they could have this many units by this day,so they wait that way a lot more people can get their device on launch day.

I'm curious as to why the software update is launching on a Wednesday and not the typical Tuesday and why preorders were on Saturday instead of the usual Friday.

I'm simply on a hunch, but I'm willing to believe Apple moved its preorder slot to Friday/Saturday to see if more people would be willing to stay up and preorder on a weekend, end of work week, rather than right in the middle of it. Then again, Apple fanatics care not when it takes place. They'll make it out in droves.

It will help even out shipping on each color, storage, and carrier specific model?

It gives Apple time to adjust what is made and what shipments come here via demand so that there won't be as big a disparity among who gets their phones on launch day and very soon thereafter?

Just a guess.....

2 weeks allows Apple the time to ship from U.S. Also time to adjust their orders
As for the Sat preorder, it was better than staying up till 3 a.m and then going to work but actually it was out of respect for 9/11

Got a source? Not being a jerk, just curious. Thanks.

Apple was asked directly about this and declined comment. That's kinda like taking the Fifth.

Evidence from a French carrier that the original date was 9/11.

My thoughts, yet another unnecessary topic.

Apple did 2 weeks because... They wanted to.

I never liked iPhone announcements and launches... Seems like all the weirdos come out with their half baked predictions.

Thanks for your unnecessary response! It's amazing people get crap for posting topics on a forum......!

I just figured the full 2-week pre-order was so Apple could give more people a chance to have their phones delivered for launch day. More customers happy = better for Apple.

Though we here in Philadelphia are under shadow of Pope-gate, and having mail delivery cut off between Friday and Monday. Which, may mean UPS/FedEx may not be delivering either. So..............ugh. Mine might not be delivered on Launch, regardless.
